I have seen many positive comments on AI Twitter about DeepSeek since a model of theirs was released a few weeks ago... One I saw last night was from a cancer researcher who claimed it was the first AI model that had come up with a reasoned thought process to suggest trying a new compound in the research he was doing [most comments say that the level of reasoning in the freely available model is as good or better than the most expensive models from competitors that charge $20 a month to use and then even with a limit to usage]

All the source code is on GitHub, so you can download and run the model on your own hardware without sending all your proprietary data to the AI company to steal. But it is not that big a breakthrough other than on the cost side; but it may be popping the AI bubble if that level of reasoning is available for the cost of the required hardware.

Probably very good news for small companies that want to use AI for their own projects such as the education company that bagged last week with an AI tutor. The Orange God will explode when he sees that his precious stock market is taking a beating because of a Chinese AI company - their access to chips is supposed to be sanctioned. If they have been using Nvidia chips to build their models then Nvidia might be in deep trouble... I expect Nvidia could use some sort of geofencing to stop them being used in a sanctioned country but have chosen not to so as not to damage demand in the black market.

And the shares seem to be trading at less than par, so they will need a GM to authorise consolidation before they can issue more shares, unless there is a big spike. Maybe a sub £1m m/cap for the brave only?
