I tried to get a tax avoidance scam closed when I worked in compliance at HMRC... a franchised business got each franchise to be set up as a partnership and then each 'partner' was paid according to the hours they worked. In doing so, NI was avoided and 'expenses' could be claimed on the individual's tax returns against that partnership income.

One of the main culprits was a politically favoured person [a 'Blairite Babe'] and they engaged top class tax lawyers; HMRC backed down and left tens of millions a year in tax get dodged. It broke my work ethic.

It also illustrates why those who were getting free [or subsidised] beer should have to pay their fair share, as it will make them value the beer a lot more.

By the same logic, most pensioners should be paying more tax as they are receiving income without National Insurance being deducted whilst benefitting from free travel and increasingly expensive treatments on the NHS. Some will cry, but they paid their taxes... but those taxes were paid to the State that expected them to die shortly after retiring. Now they are living much longer...

I have seen the reporting over the weekend; she may have said that 'Keir Starmer is as 'guilty as anyone' over failures to tackle grooming gangs' but that is not saying "we have a PM who directly ordered that child rapists must not be prosecuted.". Had there been any evidence of that, the Tories would have won the last General Election.

And - people seem to have forgotten that there has already been an enquiry that reported in 2022. Apparently, the report made 20 recommendations, none of which have been implemented [yet].
