Re: "Hargreaves's Lansdown shares are not institutional. They are not pooled monies".
I do not have, and never have had, an account with Hargreaves's Lansdown so I don't know about their T&Cs. This post is not to tell anyone they are wrong. It is partly FYI and partly in the hope that others can tell me if I have correctly understood something.
A few years ago Interactive Investor changed their T&Cs and in there was something that I didn't like. In the event of a shortfall, shares will be pooled and all II investors who own shares in the company will partake in the shortfall.
So if that happens, as I understand it, it means that even though I never gambled with my shares, they will take some (hopefully only some and not all) of my shares to make up for a shortfall caused by someone else who did gamble.
The reason why I am still with them and didn't switch to another broker was because I assumed that others would follow suit and introduce that into their T&Cs.
