"patterns in the tea leaves" - mockery, I see. if you applied you brain to studying the tutorials on chart patterns rather than thinking up supposedly amusing quips you could be making money.
Professional traders use chart patterns and there is something that is even more powerful, momentum and wave analysis, but that it very complicated and needs a lot serous study to learn it. It is too much for me.
There is something I've noticed about the detractors of charting. When it goes wrong they are full of glee and say, "You see, it doesn't work", but when it does work they just mock with quips about tea leaves, astrology and suchlike.
Yes it does go wrong, but as I said (I don't recall if it was on this board or another) a football team doesn't have to win every game to be top of the table. So long as they win a lot more games than they lose, they can be at the top, and chart patterns give a correct forecast a lot more times than they are wrong.
