Agreed Fleccy, you echo my thoughts exactly, we've had rumours before and nothing came of them, that's not to say that there is nothing in them, just no confirmation on the rumour. Any confirmation would make the share price takeoff. and me with it. Lol

Back when BT and EE merged the company’s shares were worth 441p...... Don't bet against the Germans. DT won't want to lose out having purchased BT share at 441p with their 12% shareholding.

Agreed Aus, shorter's closing have to buy the shares to close their short position, then if they decide to go long, they will be buying more shares. Could be a delayed open price I'm thinking on Monday morning by about 5 minutes.

Fair point Toff, but PIF could put someone in charge of running it. Once Fibre build is complete, BT becomes a cash cow.

The potential bidder maybe PIF, they were said to be buying up shares in BT earlier this month. Now they do have some serious cash behind them.

Shares of BT Group PLC (LON: BT.A)are likely to open higher on Monday after it emerged that the company’s board had requested bankers at Goldman Sachs to update its bid defence strategy against a potential takeover bid from a rival firm.

The company, which is currently valued at £10.1 billion is preparing to defend itself against a potential takeover bid worth £15 billion representing a 50% premium to Friday’s closing price.

A bidder who is willing to pay that much for BT Group is not likely to take no for an answer, which means that they could launch a proxy war against the board as part of a wider hostile takeover bid.

However, BT Group is the largest telecoms provider in the UK, which implies that the government might not take kindly to a hostile takeover, especially by a foreign company.

Now that Huawei has been banned from the UK’s 5G networks, BT will play an important role in Britain’s 5G buildout having committed £12 billion to the project.

BT shares have been on a downtrend this year and have lost 47.1% of their value at the start of the year when they were trading at 192.7p given Friday’s closing price of 101.8p.

There's been speculation now around Openreach for a couple of months. No smoke without fire, I do think that something is brewing. BT aren't making moves to defend themselves for nothing. We may see a rise on Monday in the share price and the price may fall back days later, just like the previous speculation, but that doesn't mean that there's nothing going on. If we can see the value in BT so can others. Just my opinion.
