I agree GreenWolf, we will wake up one morning to find that someone has made a takeover bid for ITV, I just don't know when that morning will be. All I know is ITV have a large amount of content that a large streamer would like to obtain for as little as possible. Will this lead to a bun fight, I think so if someone makes a lowball bid, others may well join the bun fight. Put it this way, I have no intentions of missing out, I intend holding ITV indefinitely if needs be. If I had to pick a potential predator the obvious one would be Liberty Global who already own 9.9% of ITV. But knowing LG's John Malone, he likes a bargain. He may make the first move, but someone else with deeper pockets may take the price in the end. JMO.

ITV teams up with venture capital as it battles the streaming giants

The broadcaster is looking to trade TV advertising space in exchange for stakes in promising startups

After enduring a brutal pandemic, Carolyn McCall will be praying that this year’s hopes for a summer of love come true.

The ITV boss is betting on a sharp revival in the advertising market as Britain’s world-leading vaccine rollout takes effect - and relying on hits such as reality show Love Island to tap into post-pandemic optimism.

Advertising sales, which tumbled by £191m to £1.6bn last year, are poised to jump by up to 75pc next month as millions more jabs go in arms.

But this growth may simply be masking a longer-term challenge as television fights for its future in an age of streaming.

ITV (LSE:ITV) is the UK’s second-largest broadcasting company that generates revenue by selling advertising time to its customers.

Live TV viewership has been declining in recent years, as streaming services like Netflix gain more popularity. However, ITV has acknowledged this and launched its own free streaming service called ITV Hub.

Today more than 33m people have signed up. And viewing hours continue to grow. Predicting viewing habits to produce new popular content is quite a challenge.

But given its successful track record, ITV looks like it can thrive in the new streaming environment, and so it’s a stock I’d like to have in my portfolio.

ITV closed up 3.50p on the week, that's 6 consecutive weeks of gains with the share price finding new year highs. The chart looks very positive. Keep the faith guys we are going higher. No Troll too, what more can we ask for? Lol.

Agreed Carrington, at some point Marshall Wace are going to have to make a decision regarding the under water short.

Looking at the chart I wouldn't want to be short ITV, I think that it looks very good at the moment and expect a further move up shortly. I also think that June could be a very good month with the start of the Euro's football championship. This should help with advertising.

According to LSE, Marshall Wace still have a 0.72% ITV short open. I hope that they get their fingers burnt badly.

5eights, I'm not sure why Goldman Sachs would call it down anymore? Now that they have returned Liberty's shareholding.

I agree Winstanley, Carolyn acted very quickly at the start of the pandemic, saved a lot of money, yet no one gives her credit for that. ITV still made a profit and cut net debt, ITV will recover far quicker than a lot of company's that are hemorrhaging cash. IMHO, she's doing a steady job under very challenging times.

Taking a look at the latest FTSE100 valuation update dated 23 March ITV were the 97th largest company, looking good for ITV in the next reshuffle.

Any of the large streamers would like ITV's vast content that includes large boxsets that would cost a lot of money to make again. Once one makes a bid others may well follow. My money would be on Liberty Global, but if LG think that they can obtain ITV on the cheap, others will pounce. Sometimes competitors bid just to stop another company gaining on them. I could be wrong, only time will tell. Just my opinion.

I'm not intending to upset anyone here but can BT frontline workers really be classed as heroes? Heroes, really, for doing their job? I think not.

At some point I believe the valuation will come out.

I'm confident that BT will recover Larry, I personally would be very happy with £3 per share, and think that this should be achievable. I think that BT have turned a corner and I'm looking forward with great optimism. I think that we all would agree that the current BT valuation is cheap to say the least.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing Larry. No good beating yourself up over it, easier said than done I know. You made what you thought was the right decision at that time.
