Afternoon all. According to what I can see, I’m the first to post today. Hope you are all well. Will my suffering never end? - Another red day yesterday and today.

Boring I know, but this morning I sold all my TSCO for a tiny 2% profit. Bought more LLOY.

Ok, this isn’t part of my trading fund, but on the basis of the inflation rate, decided to sell my HALP for a 6% profit. Although it paid effectively a fixed 5% dividend each year it’s real value is being eroded (as the SP trades between a very small band and only goes up fractionally when inflation is very low). I’ve bought a Vanguard FTSE100 tracker with the money.

Good afternoon. Grey, cold but beginning to brighten here.

V &O - I’ve been quieter as I can’t find anything that is worth risking a loss, what with the market being so flakey.
If EUA comes in over the next month, my risk appetite might increase.

Today - a total and over reverse of gains made yesterday.
This morning - Sold my trading holding of LGEN as it hasn’t been moving much for a £55 Profit, added more LLOY and ABF on their drop, those two in total are currently £40 up.
Expecting my Microsoft to drop later, despite them being a tech giant who actually make excellent profits.

Hello chaps. Another overall poor downward spiral last week for me.
Things looking up on my trading account which I’m holding onto longer than usual - LLOY and ABF because they keep going up, and down - JD because they dropped enormously.
EUA continuing a gradual increase currently 27.6p. I’m currently in a tiny profit, but like so many holding out for the big one. I’ve been here before at 35p and not sold only for the SP to drop to 15p.

TD - I’m going to be holding JD a long time too.
No wonder JD dropped yesterday after a decent trading update. Chairman sold £21m of shares.
Dropped a further 6% today. Really annoyed :(

O - all the zombie companies still going could be in trouble later in the year with future rate rises will help BEG.

Just like JD yesterday, my trade in TSCO went belly up this morning on their update. Had a small profit, now a small loss. Will hold for now.

O - OVO. HQ is in BrIstol. I think they are just middlemen skimming thin margins on high volume of customers. No real energy resources of their own like Shell,SSE etc? Not sure how long they can last given the forecasts of high spot prices for next two years at least. Its been a largely bad week so far, but I count myself lucky that I’m retired and not facing redundancy.

That said, for heavens sake. Hoping for a rise in JD on trading update today just to break even. Revenues up 10% and guidance on pre-tax profits of at least £875m compared with previous expectations of £810m.
SP drops 2%. Looks like I will be holding longer. Doesn’t bode well for Tesco tomorrow.

Morning all. Took a battering yesterday with all my funds dropping.
Hopefully, the “minor correction” is over in the US as my MSFT trade is down 5%.
T - regards US inflation, as I mentioned the other week, Jim Mellon is saying 10% by year end. Let’s hope he’s wrong for a change.

T - thanks. Not a great start last week, overall slightly down.

Trading account wise:
Bought some Ferrovial on their drop last week and doing ok.
To reduce my trading account over exposure of banks I sold all my BARC this morning for a very nice profit. (Still holding LLOY).
Looking to offload my big holdings on JD if they rise by almost 3% on their update later this week - just to break even. I made the mistake of doubling down in December.

DWHT shares have voting rights and the other - DWHA doesn’t. The Dewhurst family hold a lot of the voting rights. This next bit is a guess, but they probably maintain significant control of the company.

AS. Thanks for your thoughts. You make a good case for the proposed approachs.

You mentioned reducing exposure, but do you ever sell any of your holdings to fund a new, or increasing position, or just add when you have the available funds.

Do you have any views on enhanced VR/Metaverse/Quantum Computing? An issue for me is the big tech players with their already ATH valuations (apart from IBM) are involved. Additionally, a few of my “global” funds seem to have have many of them in their top ten holdings already.

O - I think it’s a never ending arms race between the hackers and security companies. Unfortunately, I think the hackers are probably the more clever. The hope is that as individuals we are too small to be the specific target of an attack. Quantum computing will be the game changer.

DJ - no probs. We are all friends here. You are not alone as my Investment pf is doing badly this week, but my trading account is doing almost equally as good. Good on you taking the profits on the bank shares. I’m still holding all. Talking of which, placed another order for a drop on LLOY this morning that filled in the hope of a further increase leading up to US open, but put in a stop loss (trying to learn from Mark Minervini) as I was going out for lunch. I’m back and was planning to cash it in as it’s now paid for our lunch and drinks, but will let it ride. Given LLOY has increased almost 10% in the last 7 days, I suspect profit takers will come in at some point.

Bought some more LLOY yesterday on their drop with the intention to sell later that day, but because I was going out I set a stop loss. When I came back the SL had kicked in and made $1. If I’d have controlled the deal manually I could have made $100.

O - my Franklin Midcap has 3% of its assets in Liontrust - so we are fellow investors in CNC! :)
US volatile at beginning of trade. My MSFT Dropped nearly 5%, but now in positive territory n

Afternoon all, from a now cold and wet Bristol.

O - I had to look CNC up - an interesting “small”company. Who knows maybe one of my funds is holding some given it’s very decent background.

It never ceases to amaze me how a minor interest rate rise impacts so heavily on the market (noting the other headwinds you mentioned).

A lot of red or me today. That said, after almost 2 months all my bank trades are now in very good profit. However, going in the opposite direction is JD. I went too gung ho with those before Christmas. Their trading update is due on the 12th. Having seen the drop today, maybe someone knows something.

EUA up 10% (because I sold some the other day!) on an RNS regarding dividend policy for a company that has little in terms of revenue. Don’t know if this is leading to the possible sale RNS, or the usual spike and fall back. Tempted to sell more as it’s nearing my entry point, but it’s Christmas Day in Russia tomorrow and it could be the boards little present to me.

Let’s hope the yanks are in a better mood today

T - as you know I’m a born and bred Bristolian. We all saw the images. The jury made a political decision, not one on facts and the law. No doubt the defence screened the potential jurors and ended up with a jury very much like the defendants (young, unconventional, inner city type) . I bet there were no grey haired, or conventional, or suburbanites. It didn’t actually surprise me. No doubt the jurors will be bragging to their “crusty” friends in the pubs about how they got them off. :(

As Im here, looking at my stats :)
My other major funds bought at various times in 2021 are performing as follows
Smithson up 9%,
Franklin U.K. mid cap Up up 8%.
I’ve got two smaller (in terms of money invested) funds BRWM down 15% as I bought at their high in May, and ISPY I bought several weeks ago bought mid Nov down 11%.

T - yes, but a long way to go as I took a cautious approach given the markets these past 6 months.
I split the proceeds as follows - all to hold rather than trade.
One quarter LGEN up 7.8%
One quarter THRG down 5%.
Half L&G International Index Trust up 6.74%
THRG is a U.K. small and medium multi sector company fund. I’m optimistic on which for the year ahead.
