Afternoon chaps. T - sorry to hear about your brother. Likewise DJ. My condolences to you both.

Ive been decorating this week, and tomorrow we are attending a former work colleagues memorial and celebration of life. Although I hadn’t seen him in 30 years he was a very likeable character. It was deferred from last year when there were restrictions on events during COVID. I wont say how I feel regarding No10 party gate.

No trading for me as virtually all my funds are deployed already (and most in the red!)

Finished decorating for the week, will resume next. Allotment beckons tomorrow.
I’ve been saving up my dividends (mainly LGEN, BRWM and THRG) and transferred the funds into the New Years ISA and bought more BEN this morning.
Not a trading share, but my BRWM continue to do well. There’s been several recommendations of late of them being a hedge against inflation.

Morning all. Just thought I’d check in from a damp Bristol.
T - current macro environment doesn’t lend itself to investing in shares. Though we had the warning signs since early summer last year.
No activity for me at the mo as my trading funds are tied up.
BEN doing well - I’m up 15%, but more than offset by my MSFT, GOOGL, AMZN, BARC which are all down between 5-8%.
I’ve got decorating to do this week, so will see how things pan out.
Had a reminder from HMRC about completing a self assessment for 21/22. One things for sure, after my overall decline from May 21 - I won’t need to worry about exceeding the CGT allowance!

T - thanks. And regarding stocks that can handle inflation and supply chain issues. Back last year Goldman Sachs compiled a list and my look up of them a few days ago
Adidas, AkzoNobel, Carlsberg, DSM - all down a lot; Bayer - nicely up.
So, what do they know!

I’m back in on POLY this morning, but it’s dropped a further 2% since.
I’m expecting my US stocks MSFT, AMZN, INTL, GOOGL to get walloped in half hours time.

Evening all. Thought I’d posted this earlier, but obviously didn’t make it.

My partner has tested positive for covid (for first time - has cold symptoms and feeling exhausted). Probably just a matter of time before I succumb!

T - well done on the trades during these uncertain times.

V - I’m still holding GGP even though down 25%.

DJ - take heart, some of my funds are down 20% and they are run by professionals. Also, my BRWM drifted down nearly 30% from when I bought them in May and I sold them for a nice profit in the end.

Talking of which I bought more of BRWM on their 2% drop today with the proceeds of my POLY sell yesterday.

Forgot to say, it’s not all good news. My BEN has dropped 6% and I’m now break even on them. :)

Talking of which, O - we are introducing a clean air zone in central Bristol, which will cost older petrol cars approx pre 2006 and diesel 2015 £9 a day to enter - affecting 30% of the vehicles registered in the city.
Busy most of yesterday on the allotment. While out, further SLs kicked in on some of the batches I hold of AMZN, GOOGL and MSFT. All for small profits. Topped up on BEN and bought some POLY.
If POLY rises 10% I will probably sell the lot.

C - sounds like a good plan. Wish I’d gone for POLY.
Trading wise - finally closed my trading batch of Apple I’ve had to hold for almost 3 months to make a tiny profit.
Learning from Mark Minervini - my tight trailing stop losses kicked in this morning on my holdings of LLOY and NWG for a 3% profit. Will go back in at some point.

Trading anchor pf - Things have been treading water.
In the absence of anything particularly taking my fancy, I’ve topped up over last few days on Berkshire Hathaway, MSFT, AMZN and BEN.
BH, AMZN and MSFT doing well (for me!)
I was ten percent up on BEN, but now only slightly up. Should have taken it at the time. Must do that next time.
My trading holds of NWG and BARC are treading water.

I’ve taken a small punt on Bens Creek (BEN) this morning - a small US coal mining operation. I’ve been watching it for several months, but didn’t have any spare cash until I sold my BRWM so have missed out on its biggest rise. I’m hoping it’s got a bit further to go.

Investment pf - down today - mainly due to GGP.

O - it’s as important to remember the close call on not buying a share and being grateful, as it is in ruing a decision not to invest when it subsequently rockets!

As T mentioned, Powell’s comments have benefited various stocks including some of mine.

Pleasantly surprised trading wise that my batches bought last week of AMZN, MSFT, NWG and LLOY are approx 6% up. However, my BARC still showing a teeny loss. I’m still holding at a 2-6% loss some MSFT, INTC and APPL from November last year. I’ll sell the INTC and APPL as soon as they break even.

After I’d bought my AMZN (a Terry Smith recommended buy a couple of months ago), I read an article saying that their proposed stock split would enable their entry into the DJ30 (they are already a top 10 company, but it’s a technical share pricing thing to get into the Dow) and may attract tracker funds.
I might slowly add more of them as funds become available.

Well done T. It’s pure madness on many individual SPs these past few weeks with the ups and downs for no rhyme or reason. .Rather than funds sitting doing nothing, I made some small top ups on AMZN and MSFT on their initial opening drop today.

I’m back in on BRWM, but smaller. Was going to take a punt on Pendragon after an article in the Sunday Telegraph, but it had leapt 20% on the bell.

O - you reminded me, as I forgot to say that it’s likely we will be buying new carpets from SCS - my partner was well impressed with the huge range (and she’s not easily impressed!).
Polymetal have replaced all their Non-Execs - Anyone tempted to trade them - intraday movements are quite volatile but extremely risky?

P&O Ferries is set to sack all of its staff and replace them with agency workers later today, according to industry sources.

Not sure how safe that is, let alone the morality of the decision if correct.

Back from the allotment, didnt do too much as we are out later.

With regard to P&O, when there’s a smell of blood in the air, all of a sudden your suppliers (fuel, catering, port services etc) can dry up very quickly without payment up front and a risk of having your assets impounded. These sorts of things become open secrets in the trade.

As to Supermarkets, they were allegedly a hedge against inflation. One columnist tipped Tesco back in December (couple of weeks after Omicron broke) and they’ve fallen 5% since then. Ive only traded them, not held.

O - apologies, although we saw a couple of sofas we liked in SCS, but we are likely to be buying from a local independent. There’s been a fair few people in the two SCS shops we’ve been to and that was day time mid week, so that is a good sign for you.

O - Indeed, my thoughts exactly, but things can turn on a sixpence at the mo.

Trading wise, Rookie mistake yesterday, topping up on NWG day before ex-div - which messes up my calcs until May when the divi is paid. Also topped up on LLOY,AMZN,MSFT.
I could be tempting fate, but pf wise I’ve had my best week ever mainly due to recovery of my funds THRG and Smithson.
Done little trading, but what I did was/is doing ok.
Despite all this, I’m still way down on where I was in September.

I’m off to the allotment today, then out tomorrow for the rugby.
Game against France should be interesting. I can’t call that one, as it depends on which French team turns up and their mentality. In theory, France should win.
