Morning all.
T - ditto weather. I was sceptical about the Boris ploy you’ve suggested. However, I now agree - what with Stratton (Carrie’s friend) laughing at the fake video conference party questions and likely for the chop, and adding his complete denial that he intervened on the rescue of animals from Afghanistan (when the Guardian has a copy from his Parliamentary Private Secretary saying that the various government departments have agreed blah blah). He’s always been a liar and a chancer. The stars are aligning.

On a brighter note and for a change, it’s another good day SP wise.
I’m now in profit with all the JD tranches I bought over two weeks ago, as is my Maersk I bought a month ago.

T - thanks for the update. My shed is purely functional for my tools and a place to shelter in case of rain.

I reckon my whole pf and trading fund is down 8% since April. Within that it does hide a lot of sins. If I hadn’t done one big disastrous trade of AVON I’d be down 4%.
Yes, I do follow MM on Twitter. The issue as ever is timing, or thinking I know better :)

Talking of strategies. I’ve been trying to get my head around one of Jesse Livermore’s 10 rules namely “Go long when stocks reach a new high. Sell short when they reach a new low”. It seems counter intuitive to me. At the moment I’m holding (at a loss) as a trade JD which I bought at a new high.

V - you get what you pay for irrespective of the brand. Bespoke look better and last longer from what my fellow allotmenteers say.
B&Q are ok. I bought a a cheapish (£300ish) lap wood wooden one 3 years ago for my old plot and it has been fine. On the new plot, I’ve inherited a proper wood panelled hen house one, must be from after the war sometime, but getting tattered on the bottom sides. Roof still sound, but rain comes in if the wind blows in a southerly direction- which isn’t often.

Afternoon all. Grotty weather this morning, but there’s glimmers of sun now. No trading like you guys this morning - too unpredictable. So I took the opportunity to go to B&Q to look at a new shed for my allotment. Quite a few December only bargains to be had by the look of it. So, hopefully will get it later this week.
O - very envious of what sounded like a very pleasant meal and wedding indeed. Glad you enjoyed it.

Bought some more JD this morning even though the three tranches I bought last week are still under water.

Other than that, no more trading today as I’m out again meeting some ex work colleague mates. This time, it’s the ones who are still working and have taken the afternoon off - slackers!

M,V,T - I’m not a big movie goer, maybe 3-4 a year prior to covid. Nor am I particular fan of Bond. As it turned out, two of the four others who booked didn’t turn up, so pretty empty. That said, pre-covid , I’ve been to cinemas mid week in the afternoon and it was similar. As regards the film. I’ve avoided reading anything about it. I thought it as we say in Bristol “alright”. Maybe 7/10. Like most action/spy films you need to suspend a lot of credulity. Plot wise similar to previous films. There was one exception, but I can’t tell you anything as it would spoil the film completely. I think like a lot of things on tv now, producers are trying to be more inclusive and less sexist. I’m perfectly ok with that and I don’t think it changed my enjoyment of the film. If you’ve never seen any previous Bond films, you wouldn’t think anything of it.

T - regarding Boris. Is he that clever to hatch such a plan. I see Macron is “embarrassed” as he described Boris in private as a clown. I detest Macron, but for once he is telling the truth.

I’ve got to finish the fence off today, so no traditional this morning.

Pf and trading fund doing well today, though my trading fund shares are all still down on the purchase price - apart from my three batches of JD Sports I bought a couple of weeks ago which are now 3% in profit. I will hold until at least 5%, but I am expecting bumper Christmas trading irrespective of COVID, so might hold longer.
Off to see the latest James Bond later this afternoon. On the Cineworld website it’s saying there are only 4 other people booked in.
I see Microfocus has zoomed up. Any of you still in it?

T - thanks for the comprehensive explanation. You play a very patient long game. Unlike me and my short term horizons, where I tend to look at the intra day movements and conversion to cash rather than increased share holdings.
I was doing alright until I bought BARC and LLOY well over a month ago with the intention of holding a week. It’s annoying that I’m sitting on a 6 and 4% loss, but I know they are good for it. They continued to generate huge profits during the first COVID crisis and see no real reason why that won’t continue even under the latest predicament. Though I do wonder if the BoE might defer the potential base rate change in December yet again to see how omicron pans out. That might hold back the SPs yet again.

I’ve found it quite relaxing avoiding trading the last few days. I may dip my toe back in tomorrow. Plus I don’t have to looking at my relentlessly reducing pf value!
GGP fluctuating a lot, unfortunately down today.
T - I note your ASC trade, but can I ask you and the others what might be a difficult question to answer.
I understand the concept of selling in a falling market and during periods of uncertainty, but what percentage of trades are your sells to deliberately buy back cheaper in the very near term? For me, i think it would be less than 5% and the rest is just buy and then sell (sometimes eventually!) at a profit I’m content with, or sell at a loss and then move on until the next opportunity comes along be that in said share or something else.

Glad everyone is finally ok after the weekend. Not brave enough to trade today like you guys.
After the open, I ignored the market with errands to do then fence repairs. Dug out concrete base for the fence post and cemented a new one in. Will put the panel back later this week once fully hardened. Had a hot shower and two ibuprofen!
Came back in to find a pleasant surprise share wise - best of which GGP.

As T said - Hope you are all did ok today.

T &V. ha ha. Good one. No, nor have I been trapped in the Tan Hill pub in the Yorkshire Dales. I reckon a lot of people go there on the basis they hope to get trapped and be able to dine out on the story for years to come. Who in their right mind would have gone there given the weather forecast.

T, like you I suspect it’s overreaction by our government because they’ve previously messed up virtually everything they touch in any area covid related or not (apart from securing and rolling out the vaccines).

Europe are in a double panic as ordinary covid cases are rising. This was bound to happen following easing of restrictions.
We are going to have to get used to living with variants in the same way as, as we will never get to the point where everyone in the world has been vaccinated - bearing in mind that no vaccine is 100% effective.

LSE futures are up. Heaven knows, my pf can do with some good news.

Sad news - Mr Goxx the crypto trading hamster has died. Quoting the BBC - The tiny trader began his financial career on 12 June 2021.After his final day of trading on 22 November, his portfolio was up 19.7% and he had made about 98 Euros profit.
If only I had his trading acumen, or should I say luck.

Guys - Sorry to hear about all your trials and tribulations yesterday.

Thanks T. It was a very enjoyable day with friends I hadn’t seen in two years. We actually met up in Bath. They got some good ambient pubs, all distinctly different. So, definitely better than seeing my worst ever one day fall.

Talking of which, overnight a fence post snapped and took the panel with it. Will look to do a very temporary fix tomorrow pending getting someone in to do it. Or maybe even have a go next week at digging out the existing rotten post and putting in a new one - assuming B&Q have any wood and cement left!

Hope you guys didn’t suffer any damage from the strong winds and for a strong recovery on the markets next week.

Glad I’m meeting up with some old mates this afternoon. A day to drink plenty and forget. I only have a semblance of how it felt for you guys and your investments when COVID first struck - not nice. Hopefully, overdone. The Nasdaq 100 futures I follow on eToro is only down 1.5%, but they haven’t woken up yet.

I recall on tv a long while back some English person was discussing Thanksgiving with an American, and the English person said “oh, we celebrate Thanksgiving too”.
The American said “I didn’t know that, why?”
The Englishman said “We give thanks that the Puritans left, they were miserable bunch of so and so’s, we were glad to see the back of them”. That was a very cleaned up version of what I heard!
