M. I wish I coulD find the link to very recent article regarding CINE. I think it (rights issue) was mentioned as a risk. It was also mentioned in the same article that Mooky and his brother are major share holders so it wasn’t in their interest to initiate one.
Not in the article, but I recall Mooky is incentivised to get the sp to 190 within 3 years. so again, a rights issue wouldn’t help.

M - CINE - I was as ever tempted, but didn’t. Any concern about holding the baby should there be a rights issue?
Not a lot of dealing for me the past 2 days, as I need my current trading buys to pan out - especially BARC to free up cash.
From my investing isa - I sold a small amount of my EUA this morning at a tidy profit and with the proceeds topped up on GGP. As I said before, I don’t expect to much SP wise in this one for a year.

O - funnily enough, I’ve been looking at the cybersecurity ETFs. They seem the least speculative, but have offered good returns.
Maybe somewhere to put my EUA money should it finally come in.
Big jump today, and I’m in good profit, Been here before though.

Top Dog - hello and welcome.
No. They are all funds/investment trusts. (BlackRock, Smithson, Franklin etc) I don’t recall that they leverage any of their investments - not that I’m against that in principle as long as it’s limited and opportunistic- I want them investing for long term steady growth - not to copy my narrow minded, quick win trading fund :)

In terms of diversification I made a conscious decision earlier this year to go into funds rather than holding 20+ different shares. Outside of my trading account - I now hold (medium/long term) 6 funds and 6 shares.
Regarding the rugby, yes I’m sensing a transition to a more successful and exciting young England side. Great scalp for Ireland beating NZ, no mean feat.
Separately, great result for Bristol beating Exeter. Hopefully, they will kick on after a bad start to the season.

T - I never understand the dark arts about buys and sells reporting. In my simple brain, any transaction must balance between buys and sells, obfuscated by timing of reporting and whether recorded as a but or sell :(
I did a quick look - the only significant recent purchase was £20k by the CFO, who joined earlier this year.
Yes, the board should know, but I’m wondering how the lines of communication are working from the design build and test teams.
Also to bear in mind that the helmet order announced a while back (which is the same order announced last year, but the competition had to be re-run) is firstly contingent on delivery of samples for testing by US military. Heaven forbid that fails too.

T - definitely not tempted to buy AVON on the drop. That’s how I got my fingers burnt last time - even bigger than my recent BP debacle. Even more annoying was that I took the hit in my ISA. At least the BP was from my trading fund. From the RNSs this year it’s seems to me that there’s a big problem in the oversight of the design, development and testing of their product range. Cash flow could be a problem.

M - on a positive note Maybe a takeover target for the yanks at this price, but not for me. Fingers crossed for you.

Slow drift down on my trading fund shares.
I wouldn’t say it on the board as it wouldn’t help anyone, but I’m glad I sold AVON at a very big loss a while back. Today’s RNS regarding failure to get approvals for some of their body armour is horrendous with the SP down a further 30+%. I’m no longer sure if management have a grip.
I’m counting my blessings.

M - trading fund wise, was able to sell one of my many batches of BARC this morning for a good profit. DS Smith and LGEN also moved into profit.
The other batches of BARC, LLOY and Maersk are on the cusp of profitability.
Bought JDSports on their drop with the BARC money and that’s in profit too.
Pf wise - treading water, some up some down.

Good afternoon. Went for for some fresh air this morning as it is for the moment bright and mild.

O - I take your point about inflation. In my simple mind, I feel it’s better to have your money tied up in business assets via the stock market rather than in a savings account earning less than 1%.

I read a couple of reports from Goldman Sachs and Schroeder’s about stocks that could do well in periods of high inflation, as follows: REITS, Consumer Staples, Lloyds, Natwest, energy stocks, Adidas; AkzoNobel, Bayer, Carlsberg; DSM, Ferrovial, Unilever.
I’m not entirely convinced on some of the company names looking at their share charts the past 6 months. That might be part of my problem - looking backward rather than forward.

V - thanks regarding trading fund - apart from the very big loss on BP I’ve been doing ok. However, my trading mojo has gone for the moment. Just as well as the trading funds are all tied up in losses. I need my BARC, LLOY and Maersk to go up a bit to free up some cash. It might take a couple of weeks.

T - thanks. Very pleasant walk. Decision wise, I think I do dwell too much on the shares I missed out on - eg ABF and RR and forgetting my narrow escapes. eg today, I’d previously thought about investing in S4 Capital on the back of WPPs (Sorrells old company) results a couple of weeks ago. S4s results weren’t too bad today, but dropped 10% !
This plays into the space we’ve all agreed that it’s really difficult to read the market these past 6 months.

O - hope you are on the road to recovery. May I ask, did you have your latest flu jab. I ask, as I’m wondering how effective it is given scientists say they didn’t have enough info this year due to COVID around the world. I’ve never had the flu, or the jab, but did have the jab last year as they offered it to 60 year olds. I was due to have the latest flu jab last week, but my surgery cancelled as they’d ran out. I will go to a pharmacy and try and get an NHS one next week. I get my top up COVID jab on Saturday.

As regards your pf, I’m in a similar position. Since April my funds and LGEN are doing ok, but EUA, GGP, SAR, BRWM, JDW are doing badly.

M - good to hear from you. Hopefully, you’ll soon be back up to speed health and trading wise. The best tip, as someone once said to me on this board is don’t buy or sell anything I’m involved in! :)

T & V - not sure if my nerves could cope with trading ASC and DARK. Respect!

My decision making continues it’s disastrous run.
Should have bought ABF - up 6%. I was also contemplating buying RR yesterday on the back of the mini nukes, but thought the market didn’t react positively enough. They are up 4.5%.
Ah well…….

Market rather languid. Given the uncertainty, decided not to go with ABF to trade, but after the results I may buy for my medium term pf.
Narrow escape with selling JDSports Friday. Sold on the basis that I was happy on the gain, but also surprised that a forced sale of FootAsylum was seen as positive news.
The Breaking news today, which dropped the SP was of the two heads of the businesses meeting in a car in a car park over the weekend and speculation of a potential breach of the regs. Shame really, as I’ve found it quite profitable to trade.

Agree with you all about the weird market conditions and volatility of certain shares. Overall the portfolio and trading account up thanks in the main to EUA and JDW and that’s despite a big write off on the BP I sold and currently sitting on big losses on BARC & LLOY after a 4% drop on Thursday. Looks like a total overreaction, but I will now need to hold them for as long as it takes to recover.
Sold my JDSports for a nice profit Friday morning and took the opportunity to buy more BARC once price stabilised. Overall still sitting on a 3% loss on the banks. Tempted to but ABF before results on a Tuesday.

Made a small top up of LLOY and purchase of LGEN this morning, both of which along with existing holdings of banks have just been hit by the BoE announcement of holding interest rates :(
T - I did wonder if you got out on the 10p a share rise yesterday. Glad you did

T - agreed. I would have lost even more if I held any longer. The prospects for BP was getting worse with oil falling $2 a barrel and gas going up. Apparently (even though they also produce gas) if gas prices continue to go up, their forward trading position on gas gets worse (as does Shells).

Painful. Sold BP earlier for a big loss, wiping out all my nice profits made over past two weeks. Im expecting it to drop further.
Already down before yesterday, I should have taken a trader rather than an investor view and sold at a third of the loss on opening (yesterday) after the results were announced. Instead, I was hoping for a recovery. It would appear BP got their GAS futures trading wrong, hence the write down.

T - glad you sold. Yes been following DARK closely from outset. Stayed clear, as a few major institutions said they wouldn’t be investing. There’s been a few articles in the Telegraph over the past few months. Though he’s not involved in managing the business, I think the best thing for the company would be for Lynch to sell and place his holding to a said institution. Lynch is a nasty piece of work. That said, I wouldn’t allow the yanks to extradite him. They think they are the worlds financial police force with unlimited un-bordered powers. If the crime was committed in some way of selling a U.K. company, then present the case here. I know what has been alleged, but as we know from the scandals surrounding the quality auditors/accountancy firms work , perhaps has strayed from the accounts world to due diligence world.

Forgot to say, bought a small amount of NEXT in the hope of an even better update today. However, RNS pretty much in line with expectations, so SP will no doubt fall.
