Well, China have increased tariffs to 125%, so save face Trump, stupidly,will probably increase again, however this would be a major strategic mistake imo. China have already stated "Beijing says it will not respond to any further tariffs imposed by the US..", so what will they do, without a shadow of a doubt sell US bonds as this has already proved to be Trumps Achilles' heel and that could be the end of Trump's tariff war and Trumps judgement seriously questioned too.

He's been warned let's see if he takes note !

Trumps approach to tariff taxing is akin to our WFT, very short term gain then taxes drop off a cliff-edge as ways around are found or simply trade (aka tax revenues) stop.

Could not believe the amount of 'a s s' licking that's been happening with Trumps 'advisors et al' over past few days. Guess that they are only there to further their own wealth with insider trading, they must know this is so wrong !

The tariff numbers are now meaningless, might as well be 1000%, in effect all trade will have now stopped. How long until the US manufacturers that rely upon China's supply chain last before they cut production and lay people off in a world where JIT sourcing in the norm. Shipments en route and landing over next week or two with new tariffs will raise concerns faster that most will think. The electronic's and rear earth components needed for US tech will be hard hit and I'm sure Elon will be having another word with DJT and his circus once more ! China will not back down so will DJT ?

Given what's happening to world markets and price of O&G, it would be prudent to request a further extension when the time comes so we may then have a better idea of what's to replace EPL and if the deal is still worthwhile.

Also, given the consultation is to develop a predictable fiscal response to future oil and gas price shocks, surely this must include shocks when prices dive too. The consultation closes at 11:59pm on 28 May 2025.
