Aus. We know you have a passion for Virgin and believe that they will become a major challenger to BT, the thing is the info you base this on is all headline stuff, mostly put out to Make people thing they could get a better product in the future from Virgin compared to other network providers. The facts are quite different, they themselves have stated that with a tie up with O2 they could only supply connectivity to around 50% of UK base sites. They have BB connectivity to there geographic locations but not outside of that unlike BT, with the exception of Hull who have network covering the whole UK. There TV local network relies on for the most part coax, which is really expensive to maintain due to the transmission constraints of coax. They will have equal costs to those of BT to replace that with fibre, let alone also build a full UK fibre network. To do that they will be spending money on things that BT already has such as duct, they will also need to have a hell of a lot more buildings to act as head end locations for the new areas, something BT has now but will be moving out of as they close them down as there full fibre comes on line. Virgin will have to equip those buildings with environment control equipment and expensive power distribution. They will also probably need more staff and there inherent costs. All of that expense over the same time period that BT will be reducing its cost base and becoming a much leaner high income business. Then after they have built it and spent a lot more than BT in doing so, will the people come ?
I know who my money will be on to come out on top at the end of the day...
