It amazes me how much “ Trumpisum” there is around the BT pension. All the latest information is reasonably easy to find for anyone if they are really interested in the situation. The problem is the people who constantly drag a number out of thin air, are not really interested in the actually situation, they just see it as a reason to knock BT, otherwise they would do the research and then comment. The new year will give us the situation and the plan for payments going forward, until then the latest update is a deficit in the reason of £1b down around £6b from 2019.
The important thing is that BT understands its moral situation and is making the payments for the benefit of its current and past employees.

Karak. Wot a load of tosh about Starlink you have given. Speeds expected to be, download 37m to 60m upload 4-17m at a cost of around $80 (£60) a month, without the cost of the transceiver dish and no connectivity for a phone unless at home via WiFi. Plus net (BT) fibre @ download of 36m for £23 or download of 66m for £27 a month all in no extra cost for a router. So we will all be prepared to pay 2-3 times more for the same service !!! Think not. And when it snows the fibre will still work...

Smasher is basically correct as long as any conversation is in general terms with no specific information on internal information, customers etc. Also as long as any comments are not made using the employer’s equipment and not on the employer’s time and do not identify you as an individual, then it’s no different to a conversation down the pub, but it could also be seen as gross misconduct to comment on the employer in a bad or negative light, such as commenting on there financial situation that is not in the public domain.
I see no problem with saying in what area of the company you are employed in and how your roll gives an insight to such things as higher than expected fault volumes. It could well be that your function is not directly related to say working in the field, but based on conversation with other members of staff who do have direct knowledge of such matters. We all know that people like to chat about what is wrong rather than right and therefor give a disproportionately bad view. It would be nice to know from what area you work to help others understand how valued your view may be.

Agree Don. The copper network has always suffered in times of heavy rain and especially in rural areas from lightning strikes. It causes peaks in the fault load but that is normal, if anything the fault rate year on year falls. This is part due to improved work practices but more so because of the increasing use of Fibre In the local network. A rather rash comment to make me thinks.

Have held shares since day one for BT, have made a lot of profit since then, what is called a long term investor not a fly by night one. Most of my current holding was at 61p and my current average is 90p. Lots of lovely times have been had on my profits from BT and it’s happening now.
By enjoy the ice cream you may be able to afford 2 if you did as well as you profess.

It’s a generation thing, people who have grown up with a landline and not tech savvy want it. They think there friends and relatives know there number, never know where there mobile is as they don’t use it much. The change will come, people will be converted to fibre with a router on the end which will have an audio port for there phone, all for free conversion and £20 a month for the phone connectivity . Have to admit we have a landline for exactly as mentioned, 2 mobiles wife has an iPhone that gets left at home most of the time as she forgets it, only really gets used if we go away, I have a non smart phone on PAYG that sits in the lounge watching TV never really use it unless I really need it, had enough of always being contactable when I was working in and out of hours, that I do not miss...

If memory serves BT ran a trial for a VOIP product to replace an exchange, think it was around the Cardiff area. It did not go well !!! That said it was a copper based system not fibre from memory so not quite the same as a fibre based system.
BT have for several years used VOIP for office based staff using a virtual switch. My old work controller covered 2 office locations and sometimes from home, simply plugged his laptop in when in an office, of via VPN at home, put his headset on and off he went, even had divert to his mobile if he went out and about. So always contactable on one phone number. So it is reasonable to expect this tech to replace exchanges with full fibre network and for your calls to switch from home phone to Mobile with ease. The home router would just need an audio port on it to plug a phone in.
The down side is, You are always contactable!!!!!!!!!!!
