Well H-hi this subject would appear to answer some of that question.

It’s a very mixed bag. I was involved in the rollout of 4g which involved either upgrading existing sites, or installing new ones. There were basically 2 types of locations, masts located on secure land or a rooftop and what I would describe as street furniture poles at the side of the road. The mast locations nearly always needed a permit from Arqiva, the roadside cabinets for poles tended to be new ones for 4g that we would install new kit in rather than upgrade a working cabinet. This tended not to require a permit as it was not operational. Any live site upgrade on street poles very only needed cooperation with the operator and no permit, so would suggest they were owned by the operator. Live work on masts and locations with poles on a secure site, such as a water reservoir, tended to need a permit from Arqiva.

From the point of BT in the past most of the exchanges were sold off and leased back, the same with some office buildings. I am not sure how many sites that were historically radio stations, ie towers were part of the lease back project. The same for EE what did they own before being sold and how much came to BT as part of the deal. It is a very confusing area and not sure if who has ownership is very important. I say this because if you own it you have to maintain the infrastructure and land and manage access to it, so that has a cost, but at least you own it, and could rent space to others. On the other hand if you sell and then lease back will that save any money in the longer term, or cost more...

Ownership has become very confused over the years, so who owns what is difficult to assess. BT has towers that were originally used for microwave connectivity, now having additional uses including Mobile, how many BT still own it’s difficult to know with all the selling off and leasing back that went on in the past, like exchanges. Each operator will have some sites that they own, such as the stand alone lamp post masts you see everywhere, as street furniture. Than masts on enclosed sites on rented land such as farmers land, some may be operator owned others owned one managed by a company called, Cellnex, formally owned by, Arqiva, who own and manage TV and radio masts. Then there are the sites on rooftops that may be owned by Cellnex or other site management companies, who knows. The operator tends to own cabins and equipment but the sites owned by third party’s. So to know what is owned outright by BT/EE is difficult to assess, it could be 5000 or 50000.

Aus you may be correct, you may not, I do not have an in depth knowledge, but what I do know is that there are millions of people around the world that have modified devices to stream off the web for instance pay to view channels from the likes of Sky. Many people use modified Amazon Prime sticks that give access to Sky sports for free. If it was that easy to trace such devices then millions would not use them day in day out.

My mistake was told when doing a rollout using MAC and the inserted ID chipped card that it was Machine Access Code.

Machine Access Code is on many electronic devices either as a whole or interdependent cards. The MAC addresses that were used in my BT laptops rollout used the motherboard which is the one that is widely used in this form of logon conformation in the past.

VPNs come in many forms, there are the ones that you see advertised on the TV, then the ones that cooperate business use and of course the best are those used by MOD or government. Then there are other things, USB devices that act as stand alone WiFi or PAYG mobile, my understand of such devices is that they route through so many IP addresses that tracing an origin is almost impossible. MAC addresses tend to bu used when accessing secure networks as a security layer, the laptops used by engineers at BT that I helped with the rollout for our department, used MAC addresses and the engineers chipped ID card together. If the card and it’s dedicated MAC did not match then there was no access to the network. That caused some problems if a guy went sick the day he was due to change his laptop. The biggest problem really is many people tend to use the same credentials on the systems or sites they use, it’s not the most secure way but easer than having to keep track of multiple credentials. It’s a bit easer these days with cloud memory holding them for you, but a pain if that cloud access is lost.

I was reading the other day that the government is hoping to, by the end of this month, be able to jab over 2 million a day, by using places like chemists for extra capacity. It then went on to talk about, anti vaccination people and there world, thinking it’s about, would you believe, a way to microchip the population. They use social media platforms to preach there blinkered view, they live in echo boxes with like minded people telling each other how right they are, and how very very wrong anybody with a counter view is. So I had a little look around things such as, Twitter and Facebook. Boy do these people not tolerate any opinion that is not there’s, they use the same insulting responses to those of another viewpoint. Anybody who is not in there club is not worthy of anything but contemptuous, insulting responses including claiming they have mental health issues. They just live in a bubble outside of reality. I also noticed that once one platform is no longer working in there favour they move onto others to find new allies. Some it would appear remove themselves from one platform as they move on hoping to not leave a trace. But you know what, I also discovered that there comments can still be found, like a nasty stain on the internet. Why I wonder are these people so unwilling to at least consider another viewpoint, even when there comments are proved false, perhaps they deserve to live in there own happy place, where everyone agrees with them. It is exactly these type of people we have seen disrupting democracy in the USA. They are unable to accept that when a democratic vote has been declared, its over. Perhaps they are not intelligent enough to realise when it’s finished its finished, move on...

Long term outlook should be good, plans to resume dividend this year should help the price. At the moment I think it will hang around the £1.30 area as Covid and the B word still hold some questions that probably won’t have any firm answers for several weeks. If they start showing positively then things should start to move in the right direction. IMO
