Yup plus you don’t have to be available to your bosses 24/7/365 unlike many of them you get to have a life because you are contacted for a fixed number of hours, many managers are not they are contracted 24/7/365. Plus if you are good at something then your manager would rather have you as a trusted, knowledgeable member of there staff, which in turn enables them to perform better not having to worry about your impact on the company...

Most ISPs have SLGs. Service level agreements. For the end users this is normally 5-7 working days to resolve a problem proved to be in BTs network. So yes after that period there could be a compensation claim per case. As most BB services are remotely tested if BT say there part has tested good then the clock resets to zero for the ISP to investigate so a fault could bounce around for weeks before it became a compensation claim. BT has always played the percentage game with faults being prepared to pay out on say 3-7% of all proved to there network. The last time my line had. Fault was about 6 years ago.

Yes Fleccy. I was on 24/7 call for around 25 years one week in 4 with 2 of us covering an area about 25 by 25 miles looking after only business services, leased lines, data, over copper and fibre. I used to get called 3-4 times a week out of hours let alone during the day. When I left there were 4 of us covering an area 3 times the size and got called 4-5 times a year. The only impact in the short term would be new work the network is now very resilient. BT and the CWU have managed to work things out over the years, and that is hopefully what will happen this time. I respect the right to withdraw labour as a last resort.

Correct notakin. Global are overseas, the clue is in the name. They have always been a law unto themselves, keep trying to take over the world, fail, get well rewarded, reset, start again, repeat.

No matter what your view of Brexit is and how things will go for our economy one thing is for certain. The wonderful “Garden of England” Kent, will be turned into the worlds biggest Lorry Park. And it will last for months because our Government, which has covered its self in glory in the last 12 months, NOT, has managed to get to the point that no matter what, transport firms have no clue what they need in place to drive a lorry from Kent to France.

In the past when there have been issues like this, there have always been an understanding that should any industrial action take place the union would support the company should a situation arise that could put lives at risk and allow staff to respond to any such situation . This happened in 87 where things like emergency services received cover if needed.
In over 30 years BT and CWU have managed to get things sorted without resorting to full on strike action across all divisions. Hopefully this will still be the case. On a technical side the network is much more resilient today so any action would only affect new work on the whole, the network will just sit there doing its thing in most instances.

Allwrong. Clearly you have had a recent issue with BT that you feel has not been dealt with correctly, as there are no posts from you re BT for over a year!!!!!!!!
If your credit score has been affected by you breaching your financial agreement with them, then that is YOUR fault not there’s. If you felt you had a valid case against them and felt you should have a financial compensation, you should have taken some legal advice,or gone to the small claims court. No sympathy as it would appear you have brought this upon yourself and decided to take your poor decision making out on the company in chat rooms. Lesson learned. Must try harder...

For once I have to agree Toff. Think Cummings and Bojo realised a few weeks ago that Trump may loose, causing them to rethink there approach to the EU talks. Let’s have another chat, just in case, so they backed away from playing hard ball with the EU just in case a deal with Trump did not happen. Then on Saturday Bojo was on the phone to the EU and talks are back this week. The EU needs a deal but I think they were prepared to not have one if Trump was involved, now he is out of the way both sides, EU and UK can soften there lines and I think a deal is now on the cards. So thank you Donald for hopefully sorting Brexit out and saving the free world...

Remember it well. As far as I was concerned, I was suspended with my manager taking my ID off me and sending me home as I refused to work due to people being suspended for refusing to work overtime. As did everybody else who was in the CWU at the time. There was tons of voluntary OT when we went back, for months. Then later in the year we had the Hurricane, we worked our socks off for weeks again, and the company were very grateful, we all got Hurricane 87 sweatshirts. How things can change in the space of less than a year.
