I think they are (or should that be were?) just QD’s tuned for the infrared spectrum btw. The nano particle talk, was I think just to keep people guessing. QD’a are nano particles after all.

I don’t know if the original use was to produce a full frame shutter type camera as built by Invision, who were purchased by Apple a year or two ago. Or if it was to improve a time-to-flight sensor for 3D imaging, or a combination of the two, in terms of suitability, they may have found a more economic process, switched QD supplier, or simply scaled back the spec/abilities of the product.

If the Runcorn expansion has to be dismantled, I would hope the original contract would stipulate any costs incurred be covered by the partner,as they agreed to fund the expansion.

Still doesn't deal with the fundamental aspect of where future revenue is going to come from though.

My view is that as industry likes dual (or more) supply routes, there would need to be more than a sole producer of the CFQD before the ban would be rubber stamped. As Nanosys have publicly stated they can and are producing cad free QD's, that second line exists and they have little justification for continuing CdQD production, unless their non-cadmium dots trail competitors.

I've said before,but will say again, if Nanosys QD's are second to none, then why has a US corp visited our shores and invested significant funds for Nanoco QD.

Cadmium based QD display represents a tiny market share. Cad free is larger by far, primarily through Samsung's range of displays. QD display has barely got going yet, and has taken longer to ramp than analysts predicted.

Thankfully it's a platform tech, and the use in sensors could be bigger than display. Until recent times, maybe the last 18 months or so, it was largely overlooked.

The Chinese know how to make Cd based QD's cheaply, so they want a license to flood the market with cheap QD enhanced LCD screens.CFQD dots are more expensive, and they don't know how to make them.

All those Samsung sets must a load of rubbish with their sub standard cadmium free QLED sets based on that logic.

Yes, suspects Beech, but it is not worth it at this early stage for a couple of reasons:

Blue-to-red quantum dot phosphor conversion is more efficient (~35%) than blue-to-green
The red component in images tends to be much smaller than green – to the point that some sequential colour microdisplays repeat RGBG…
