Divi cut coming?4 May 2019 21:46
From the Telegraph today.
"A split has emerged at the top of BT over whether the telecoms giant should cut its dividend to boost its budget for broadband upgrades.
Philip Jansen, chief executive since February, is said to favour curbing shareholder payouts as Openreach, BT’s monopoly infrastructure arm, accelerates its roll-out of faster and more reliable “full fibre” networks to replace aged copper telephone lines.
However, sources inside BT said Jan du Plessis, the chairman, is keen to maintain the dividend and his own credibility. When he sacked Mr Jansen’s predecessor, Gavin Patterson, last year, Mr Du Plessis insisted new leadership would not mean another U-turn on payouts. Mr Du Plessis is said to enjoy the support of Simon Lowth, BT’s finance chief."
