RE: Going bust10 Apr 2018 15:17
I used to work for one of the smaller (not so small) energy companies. Many of the smaller ones go in at unsustainable prices to get the business. Not only that but they can end up with some pretty worthless customers who will switch away when the introductory offer runs out. If you do a check on one of the switching sites you will see quotes from companies you may never heard of before. Future Energy is the latest victim to go bust. Quite often switchers regret their move by ending up with a company who have cut corners to make some kind of profit. Therefore customer service is lousy, statements fail to get issued, software issues do not get corrected, incorrect bills are sent out and so on. So, on the strength of this knowledge, I have decided to invest in Centrica because I believe all it required was someone to recognise the impact that a cheap tariff has when offered by an experience and established company. Recently, it did just that and I have made 10% in just a few weeks on the share price, disregarding the dividend. I have no valuable experience in shares to offer but I know the consumer business to a certain extent. SSE are also a reliable and established company and so I have bought a few of those too!
