But do you honestly think, within an African context and especially Botswana, the state power utility is going to let an Independent Power Producer use their network and undercut BPC on pricing.....

Oh and PS - the power grid in Botswana is owned 100% by BPC / Govt. Fact !!
Anyone selling electricity in Botswana must first connect that power to the grid so that it can be delivered to whomever end user.
Nobody, absolutely 100% nobody else in Botswana sells power to anyone else without first connecting to the grid ....
And when finally, eventually ... after 100+ years of trying ..... Tlou or Sekaname or the 2 IPPs you referenced earlier or ...... (anyone) .... manage to actually generate electrons so they can sell them.... Do you believe BPC will let them sell at nil mark up, a little mark up, a big mark up, or a monster mark up....

Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) has been mandated by the GoB to manage, operate, and maintain the Orapa power plant. The plant was setup with capabilities of being run on natural gas and diesel but since 2011, the commissioned mode of operation has been diesel fuel.

So the thread has gone from AA largely owning, via subsidiaries to 3 IPP licences issued last year. And the only question asked was - who owns the Orapa plant.

DTE - again, read my posts and it seems the only thing you know about extrapolating, is how to spell it. I never said it was knackered as in kaput and near death’s door.

I said it would likely need substantial refurbishing or repurposing in order to switch the plant from dirty cloggy diesel to wonderfully Tlou smelling sweet gas. And asked the question - has that body of work been baked into the gas supply tender (it won’t have been). And if it hasn’t been, when the successful tenderees become aware (they probably are already but don’t dare say, as they just want to win the damned thing) they are going to ask who pays for that cost. And when will it be done by. And we know whatever timeframe they say, we can double it and add 6 more months. Sorry I exaggerate on that - the real point is who pays. It won’t be Govt or BPC coz they are broke. So if this cost isn’t being inbuilt to the tender now, then the tender will have to be repriced etc.
And what does that all mean - easy one - more time wasted. Lots more !!

The question is - who owns the Orapa 90MW power plant.

Here is the thing Smith - I said you guys didn’t know what was going on on the ground in Botswana. You sit down old boy and have a nice cuppa and have a good think about what I didn’t say. See if you have a lightbulb moment.

TB - what businessman in his right mind who is in charge of shareholder funds starts paying for and constructing a transmission line without absolute security of knowing he has sufficient funding to finish the job?!
Some absolute basic rules of business and common sense seem to be beyond the grasp of posters on this board.
Let me give you my speculative thoughts - the last fund raise was needed to keep the lights on. But TG couldn’t just say that, so he bundled in starting the transmission line given it will take a fair old while to complete. His hope probably was that the PPA would be sufficiently advanced that he could then trumpet that milestone, which would mask the current lack of progress of the TL. But the PPA negotiations are way slower than expected, and now shareholders are starting to focus on his previous words. If the PPA doesn’t come soon, the pressure just keeps notching up and up.
This said, I found OBs post suggesting a PPA would be signed within a month of draft being issued highly interesting. He clearly has knowledge of the process there, so whilst I personally strongly doubt it will be turned around and completed so quickly, at least his opinion is worth keeping in mind.

The main question right here, right now is - is 2.5 pence the last great entry opportunity here?

I am wrestling with Tlou getting a PPA and using that to raise financing. Question is - will the lender expect Tlou to put up more equity. And if so, how much. Maybe that is the time to wait until in order to Buy big.

TB, this may well surprise tou but I have a Buy on Tlou. But please don’t tell the others as it is fun reading their views on stuff they have precious little understanding of.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology & Energy Security (MMGE), Ellen Richard-Madisa this afternoon (Thursday) visited the BERA staff in Lobatse, where she reiterated the need for them to regulate the energy sector with integrity.

She further asked the Authority staff to self-introspect on how they can fully support the various government initiatives. For her part, the BERA CEO, Rose Nunu Seretse thanked the PS for her visit and extolled on the energy projects that BERA is undertaking to further develop the country’s economy.
