You can take whatever view you are minded to take actually DTE.
How about this one - TG is supposedly very rich from his previous commercial CBM exploits. He has a management team employed and tasked with executing on company strategy, the bull of which I suspect is guided by him and perhaps Mitchell (his previous CBM boss). The younger ‘turks’ draw their salary as they, like us all, need to eat and pay bills. Is their salary as important to them as TGs would be to him currently? I would proffer TG doesn’t need his relatively modest (for a senior CEO) salary as much as the ‘turks’ need theirs. Just a guess on my part - or rather a view I am more inclined to take.
Now, to the point - progress in Botswana is super slow but salaries etc still need to be paid. Tlou runs down its cash reserves and needs to raise more cash, to keep lights on and keep paying salary. TG takes a further pay cut; well done him. That sends a great message to retail shareholders - commitment and all that!!
But I rather fancy in TG mind, increasing the value of his increasingly significant investment in Tlou drives his thinking more that receiving a modest salary. To the extent he may keep a reasonably balanced scorecard over time where his top up investments on rights issue isn’t a million miles away from his regular salary withdrawals….
Lastly I don’t expect someone as seasoned as TG will be hanging his financial future or kids inheritance on the outcome of a project anywhere in Africa. I reckon he saw /sees this as more of a hobby and something to keep him busy and entertained v wanting to put in hard yakka yards.
Remember - just a view. You are welcome to disagree, as is your right. That doesn’t make you right and me wrong however.
Isn’t this fun !!
