DTE - 2 horizontals wells are more than sufficient to supply enough gas for 2MW of power generation; and probably 10MW and maybe 20MW. Someone with more technical knowledge could perhaps comment intelligently on this point.
The company did indeed last announce they had closed one wells down and continued dewatering the other. And we’re flaring gas. Are they still doing that? We don’t know for sure, but given the absence of communication from the company to the contrary we assume they are.
In that case, there should be substantial quantities of water - what is being done with this? Surely they are not just wasting it ? There could and should be a good story around excess water usage.
What concerns me though is - solar was added to the story not that long before they started drilling the 2 horizontal wells. What if horizontal drilling has not been the success the company hoped for? Botswana coal seams are not particularly thick, making drill tracking more complex than say in US seams.
And horizontal wells will, over time, collapse in on themselves. They need to remain open and flowing so that water and fines residue continues to be cleared. Closing one well is ok usually for a while but there is a cost to re-opening it, which rises the longer the well is left alone.
There has been zero communication provided by the company on The Central crux of CBM drilling and gas extraction. This info is vital for an educated understanding of commercial operations and business viability.
Instead, we are treated to a pivot change in the story into an emerging energy technology that has a long way to go before wholesale and widespread adoption in energy markets. And this by a gas exploration company that continues to not be able to transition to an extraction and development company, that will again in not many more funds be running out of cash. But we are told there are due diligence activities continuing in the background - by parties within Botswana and outside Botswana. And certain of those parties require a PPA for funding purposes and certain do not.
Personally I would say the company has, or will soon have, a credibility issue. Let’s hope they have something clear and sensible to say soon, as I doubt matters can continue much longer in the way they have (for 3+ years)…..
