RE: Are we going to see 40p today??30 Nov 2020 11:53
"This is the people who work on funds day job, they're experts at what they do, they will always have a far better idea of timing than any of us."
This is true Mac, added to the fact that they have access to the city rumour mill and huge amounts of other people's capital to play with so don't need to generate multi-multi-bags: a nice 200% or 300% on a few million quid is an awful lot of money. But, they do face constraints, and what they don't have is the ability to take the really big risks that do generate those multi-multi-bag returns, which is where us lowly PIs are at an advantage of sorts. If you pick the right stock, do your research, and are prepared to hold through the ups and downs, you can (as many of as currently are doing) enjoy 2000%+ (and much more to come) returns.
I've learned a lot with my EUA experience: research hard, trust that research unfailingly unless the facts change; invest early when there's barely a ripple in the sea, average down constantly when the SP is drifting, build as a big a stake as possible; sit back, wait, enjoy the camaraderie. Once this is over, my intention is to redeploy around 30% based on these principles, siphon a nice chunk off to buy memories and add to the wine cellar, and stick the rest in funds so as to protect the capital and generate stable, long-term returns (while safeguarding the old ticker).
Big pat on the back and extra tipples for all shipmates who are still holding!
