RE: US to accept peace deal27 Apr 2022 10:31
Obviously everyone hopes the peace talks will get back on track and this will need to be seen to be believed but there may be a reason for Turkey stating this publicly. Hopefully there is some basis for this statement…
“Turkey hopes that Putin and Zelensky will hold a meeting "in the coming days"
Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar noted that Ankara "continues to contribute, do everything necessary, including a mediation role, so that the humanitarian situation in Ukraine does not deteriorate"
ANKARA, April 27. /TASS/. Turkey hopes that the meeting of the Presidents of Russia and Ukraine Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky will be held in the coming days. Such words were made on Wednesday by Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar following consultations held at Ramstein Air Base in Germany on the provision of military assistance to Kiev by the West.
"We hope that despite some difficulties, in the coming days thanks to the proposals of our president [Recep Tayyip Erdogan] two leaders will be able to meet," the Turkish Defense Ministry quotes him as saying.
According to Akar, "Turkey continues to contribute, do everything necessary, including a mediation role, so that the humanitarian situation in Ukraine does not deteriorate and the ceasefire is reached as soon as possible."
Ankara regularly declares its desire to organize Putin's meeting with Zelensky on its territory, but Moscow, in response to such proposals, has repeatedly explained that Putin has never fundamentally refused to meet with Zelensky, but for this it is necessary to prepare the text of the document on Ukraine.
