Newmont to buy Miramar Mining for C$1.5 billion.

NEW YORK/TORONTO (Reuters) - Newmont Mining Corp (NEM.N), eager to replenish tight gold reserves, said on Tuesday it would buy Canadian explorer Miramar Mining Corp MAE.TO MNG.A for C$1.5 billion (US$1.52 billion).

The all-cash deal, which won unanimous approval from Miramar’s board of directors, will give world No. 2 gold producer Newmont control of the undeveloped Hope Bay project in the far north Canadian territory of Nunavut.

The project has indicated and inferred resources of 10.7 million ounces, according to Miramar’s Web site.

Yep. 18p was 52 week High. I think Solgd's cascabel is on the same Gold belt that originates from Columbia if I remember correctly.

I would expect this to go to 10p...in coming days. First pyshicological barrier. I am sure Newmont will be looking for a much higher ROI on their 5.4p Buy in price.

Yep. I thought I was clever to sell my Solg at 11p.....doh...made a mess of that one. Then saw Solg hit MCap of over £600m Solg MCap still today is £480m

Yep GGP got to £100m MCAP while waiting for Newmont to JV.....instead they walked.

At OMI.....Newmont on board now.....and with juicy Gold grades, they would buy out OMI.....no brainer.

Even Barrick Gold or NewCrest might be tempted to take a bigger slice of this cake down the road leading to a Bidding war. Defo a Buy, Accumulate & Hold, this one.

Mikey30, Certainly possible...behind the scenes negotiations happen all the time. Would also be in line with what VerbierDave suggested over the weekend. Speculation at this stage, but quite possible that BlockXX gets drilled also by Sinopec.

Yep, Newmont are no fools....there is a reason why it's 2nd largest gold miner in the World just behind Barrick Gold and in pursuit of No.1 spot. Isn't Colombia sitting on the richest Gold belt? OMI was on my watchlist many years ago, then I forgot about it.....lol Certainly woke me up today....lol
