Ta U2. My issue with halving the allowance is not simply I prefer to pay no tax, although I do. Cgt is fiddly, there are losses to offset, duration of holding rules, B&B rules. HMRC might well spend £1 or more in work on every £1 they draw, for non-millionaires like us (me anyway). Hence the justification for higher allowance, clears thousands of small guys from the workload.

Chitty, thanks for comments and opinions although I differ. We all have different circumstances, but if all my profits had been in taxable accounts I would have been liable for cgt this and last tax years. As it is, under £12k made in taxable accounts. N.B. Next tax year government intends to halve the allowance. Also, I don't have £20k for isa every tax year, so for me using some allowance for trading isn't a problem. GL1&A.

Not solely, obviously. BBs have brought shares to my notice, then I have a look and a think. I had already bought a few when it dropped to 11p 13m ago, bit of a facer: thought, happy, approximately doubled my holding, happy now; we can all call it wrong. When 50p+ I sliced a few, should have more, but thought we were heading stratospheric (not on H basis). Thanks for the recommendation but really I had decided way back.
