Peaking pants are there because base load is too low or unpredictable Gas fired peaking sorts out the problem re unpredictable. Solar and wind cannot be base load as they are unpredictable
Alternative predictable uk base load has in the past been supported by coal, not anymore the last coal based power producers are closed. Nuclear power was seen to be the next reliable base load supply. well that has not gone too well either, 2b down the drain for the Japanese company to get as far as being told no by HMGOV. Just as well Kibo did not have to spend 2b in Africa to be told no/. All of a sudden Africa starts to look more attractive re risk and reward:))
Where I am Hydro was the low cost green alternative as a base load generator. until demand soared over supply and Hydro could not match then Hydro reliability called into question following droughts and dam closures for dredging . Now its back to Coal and diesel to form base load Generation.
Quite correct that due diligence as to what if any need or demand for gas modular plants is needed. I suspect that this has already been achieved but identification of ''letters of comfort'' would I agree be helpful. Hard to see why MED would pursue this opportunity if it does not exist. The ongoing due diligence will I am sure identify the reality. at least it has cost nothing for exclusivity.
The next up date may be at the end of next week. Probably mid March for the last of the initial 3 first stages due diligence tests for MED, another 6mw, if it follows the time lines for the first 2, probably see it come on line at the end of Q1 next year.
