United States President Donald Trump said on Friday the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should "stop playing games and start saving lives," urging the agency to approve a coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE as soon as possible.
"While my pushing the money drenched but heavily bureaucratic US_FDA saved five years in the approval of NUMEROUS great new vaccines, it is still a big, old, slow turtle. Get the dam vaccines out NOW, Dr. Hahn," the president posted on Twitter.
On Thursday, the FDA's advisory panel recommended the vaccine for emergency use authorization (EUA) in the US as 17 panel members voted to okay the jab, while four voted against issuing the authorization. However, the final decision is expected to be announced "in the coming days," Pfizer said in a statement.

Shares of the Sad Diego chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. dropped more than 8% on Friday as Apple reportedly unveiled that it intends to produce its own modems that would be used in future models the day before.
The two companies signed a six-year global patent licensing agreement in 2019 which included modem production, after two years of disputes over Qualcomm’s patent licensing practices. Modems powering the latest line-up of Apple's iPhones were developed by the San Diego company.
Qualcomm's shares plunged 8.06% to sell for $143.28 at 12:09 pm ET.

AstraZeneca said on Friday the company would collaborate with Russia’s Gamaleya Institute, which developed the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, to investigate whether their two vaccine candidates can be combined to provide improved immunity from COVID-19.
"Being able to combine different COVID-19 vaccines may be helpful to improved protection and/or to improve vaccine accessibility. This is why it is important to explore different vaccine combinations to help make immunization programs more flexible, by allowing physicians greater choice at the time of administering vaccines," AstraZeneca said in a statement.
A new analysis last week said that the coronavirus vaccine candidate developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University is both "safe and efficient," with an efficacy rate of about 70% on average in preventing the virus. Meanwhile, Sputnik V could be as effective as over 96%.
