United States Capitol Acting Chief of Police Yogananda D. Pittman confirmed at a press conference on Friday that one US Capitol police officer has died in an attack that occurred earlier during the day.
During the conference, Pittman confirmed earlier reports that an identified person rammed into two US Capitol police officers. One of them lost their life, while the other officer is currently being treated for injuries at a nearby hospital. According to Pittman, the suspect crashed into a barrier on Constitution Avenue and lunged at police officers with a knife upon exiting the vehicle. He was shot by the police and later died from his injuries, Pittman stated.
The name of the suspect and the officers are not being released to the public at the moment. US Capitol remains in lockdown following the incident.

Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE announced on Thursday the latest study showed their vaccine against COVID-19 was "highly effective" for six months.
The companies said the jab's success in preventing contagion in the aforementioned period was 91.3%. They also stated the treatment's efficacy in preventing severe disease was 100%, as per the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) definition of critical cases, and 95.3%, as per the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) interpretation. Pfizer and BioNTech added they had not observed any "serious safety concerns."
The latest update on the vaccine's potency comes after a recent study found it was 80% effective after the first dose. Meanwhile, the companies said it was 100% successful in protecting children between the ages of 12 and 15.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 1.1 million people in the United Kingdom have been suffering from symptoms of COVID-19 for longer than four weeks outside of the hospital.
The ONS released the Infections Survey data with estimates covering a period of four weeks ending with March 6. Of those infected, 697,000 had experienced the symptoms of COVID-19 for a period of three months and 70,000 for a period of a year.
A spokesperson for the ONS said that this is their first analysis of the so-called long COVID phenomenon and cited several issues with self-reporting from the sufferers.

United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai stated on Wednesday Washington would continue to fight what the government labeled "significant trade barriers" for the country, such as the "world's leading offender" China.
Tai said those limits "present major policy challenges with implications for future US growth opportunities, and the fairness of the global economy." She added Washington would focus on its trade cooperation with other governments to protect its exporters from threats such as China.
Earlier this month, Tai remarked there were still no conditions for the US to lift its sanctions on China and stressed the importance of trade relations between Washington and the European Union.

United States President Joe Biden revealed on Wednesday that Americans making under $400,000 a year wouldn't see a federal tax increase.
Biden argued that no one should complain about the 28% corporate tax hike, saying that it's wrong for companies not to pay income tax.
"In 2019, an independent analysis found that there were 91 Fortune 500 companies that used various loopholes to pay $0 in federal income taxes on US income. That's just wrong - and we will put an end to it with the Made in America Tax Plan," he explained.

United States President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that his economic plan was created with the aim of rewarding "work, not just wealth."
Speaking in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Biden claimed that his plan will help the US make "the strongest, most resilient, innovative economy in the world." He described the plan as a "once in a generation investment" and "the largest" one "since Word War II." It consists of two parts - the American Jobs Plan and the American Families Plan, he also revealed, adding that the second part of the plan will be released in "a few weeks."
Biden stated the plan would "modernize transportation infrastructure" among other goals and make the US "competitive" economically.
