Canada's National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) said on Monday the country should halt the rollout of a coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca plc. and Oxford University for people under the age of 55.
Previously, Health Canada unveiled that health authorities detected "additional cases" of blood clots occurring in people upon receiving AstraZeneca's jab. "In light of this evolving information," the NACI is set to release revised "terms and conditions on the authorizations of the AstraZeneca and Verity Pharmaceuticals/Serum Institute of India vaccines," the agency announced.
Earlier on Monday, Canadian media reported that several states, including Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, were set to halt the rollout of the vaccine for those under 55 over safety concerns.

Novavax, Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK) announced on Monday that they reached an agreement on the manufacturing of 60 million doses of Novavax's coronavirus vaccine candidate.
Under the deal, GSK "will provide 'fill and finish' manufacturing capacity at its Barnard Castle facility in the North East of England" starting from May.
The companies noted that Novavax and the United Kingdom government already reached an agreement on the purchase of 60 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine candidate, which showed 96.4% efficacy against the original strain of the virus in a Phase 3 trial in the country.

The United Kingdom has urged the United States to refrain from introducing retaliatory tariffs over the UK's digital services tax, according to the UK's Trade Secretary Liz Truss.
"We don’t believe that tariffs are the answer to resolving issues. I would urge them to desist from any tariff raising," Truss told The Financial Times on Monday.
Earlier, the US Trade Representative announced a series of hearings as the Biden administration begins exploring tariff measures against the UK in response to the digital services taxes.

Egypt's Suez Canal Authority (SCA) chairman Osama Rabie stated on Monday that traffic in the Suez Canal resumed after the successful refloating of the Ever Given ship.
Following reports that the Suez Canal was unblocked earlier in the day, Rabie confirmed that the canal is now operational, giving way for some 400 vessels to start traversing the crucial international trade route.
The SCA stated it would need 3 and a half days to clear the congestion jam caused by the blockage, while the shipping company Maersk Group said it could take months for the backlog to be cleared.

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA reported on Monday that it has been made aware of the situation regarding the default on margin calls by a US hedge-fund, and is in contact with the banks.
Credit Suisse Group AG informed the regulatory body on Monday that it is facing "highly significant and material" losses to its first-quarter earnings as a result of the default. FINMA stated that it is "aware of this international hedge-fund-case, (several banks and locations internationally are involved)," adding it was informed by the bank and is in contact with it.
The situation with the US hedge-fund, named by Bloomberg to be Archegos Capital Management, also caused a warning of a "significant" loss by Nomura Holdings Inc.

Equities on Wall Street were lower in premarket trade on Monday after United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai revealed that the Biden administration is not prepared to remove tariffs on goods coming in from China. In addition, China announced countersanctions against the United States and Canada, causing criticism from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average index declined 0.46% or 153 points, the Nasdaq 100 was 0.64% down and the S&P 500 decreased by 0.57% at 4:33 am ET.
The euro was 0.16% lower compared to the US dollar, selling for 1.17741 at 4:33 am ET.

Ever Given, the ship that has been blocking the Suez Canal since the previous week, had turned but was not yet afloat, its owner Shoei Kisen Kaisha said on Monday.
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) added the process had started successfully and would continue throughout the day, aided by higher tides. The officials added the ship's course had been corrected by approximately 80%.
Ever Green was refloated earlier in the day after spending almost a week stranded in the Suez Canal, disrupting an estimated $9.6 billion a day.
