Uber to reclassify all of its drivers in UK as workers16 Mar 2021 21:31
Uber Technologies Inc. decided to reclassify all of its drivers in the United Kingdom as workers, an SEC filing showed on Tuesday, with over 70,000 drivers receiving some employee benefits.
The drivers will be provided with minimum wage, holiday time and pension contributions, but still won't receive full employee benefits under the designation. Furthermore, Uber revealed its UK business accounted for 6.4% of all mobility gross bookings in the last quarter of 2020.
The decision follows the ruling by the British Supreme Court from last month, which directed that drivers of the ride-hailing company must be classified as workers instead of independent contractors.
