Germany to leave 2 nuclear plants on reserve - Habeck5 Sep 2022 22:22
German Economy Minister Robert Habeck told reporters on Monday, while presenting the electricity stress test results, that the country plans to leave two out of three of its remaining nuclear power plants available as a backup.
Although Habeck stated that the German network stability is in great shape and that the country currently has "enough energy," he noted that the Isar 2 power plant and Neckarwestheim power plant will be used as reserves should the need for that arise during the winter months.
Habeck stressed that due to various risks that could lead to electricity shortages, the decision was made to extend the life of the aforementioned power plants until April 2023. Nevertheless, the third plant will be permanently shut by the end of 2022.
