Jakers Petrochemical business is very very cyclical and is either feast or famine
Feed stock (ie oil and gas)has just went through the roof.
There’s also a lot of new production coming on stream
I’m not sure if this was a good sale or not ,but am sure Ineos will make money from them

There may come a time when share price gets higher (whenever that is) when it makes sense to rebalance div to share buyback ratio,but at present we all think it’s to cheap and apparently so do the BOB so it’s a no brainier at present to buy back shares
For those who say buy backs don’t accomplish anything just google BP stake in Rosneft where % owned by BP went from about 19.75 to 22% due to share buyback

90% of what’s written on here will turn out to be irrelevant and unimportant.
It’s only with hindsight we find the gems

Original statement from BOD was that 4% div increase out to 2025? was supported by the reduction in shares due to buyback so think your figures will be close.
At some point if number of shares decreases by 3–4% each year share price should go up by at least similar or else value of company will be less.
I think what is really holding back sp increase is
People who bought low now taking out profit of well over £1 Per share
Also Greens who are trying to get out of investing in oil,including pension funds
At some time hopefully BP will have bought them and there will be a lot of shareholders who bought in over £3 who think BP has a future which makes money

Rosneft div increasing substantially
Aker BP div increasing substantially
Charging utilisation increasing at a fast pace
Don’t think there were any real negatives .
Still expect to be in oil but only very good profitable field.
Think this share is very misunderstood especially by many on here.

Just read transcript of earnings call .
If it goes to their plan things will only get even better.
Suggest anyone serious on BP give it a read you can find it in various places just google BP earnings call transcript (read it on motley fool)

Smithy some of the 40% reduction is also creative accounting as like Iraq it’s being moved to stand alone company with its own capex

What you say is very true there is room for BOD to move on dividend.
I am gambling on a move of something close to 25%. rise which will only take it to about 5p and have sold several other positions to add another 3700 shares to my BP
Will know very soon if I am right but know it’s a gamble but just feel it’s a case of when ,if not this quarter think it will be soon unless something very negative happens

Think Market suffering from Irrational Stupidity at the moment
Normally when a company starts Buy Back market puts up price to hoover up your cash then possibly returns price to where it was before.
We all seem to think worth £4 if so at times BP has been able to get 25% more bang for its buck.
It’s not only BP buying back at lower prices than you would expect Vod,Unliver B&Q all been rewarded for buy back with falling price.
Would love to BOD spreadsheet with how many shares they expected to buy back for their money and the sp they expected to end with

Think it’s far to easy to torture yourself these days as it’s so easy to get information updated every minute, not like when you used to have to get a daily paper to find out yesterday’s closing price.
I was a bit like that after OIL SPILL when needing to sell to replace dividend income and watching every trade for about an hour at a time trying to see if there was upward momentum.Now a bit calmer and as someone said earlier sure that fundamentals will come through at some point

The 2 things I like about Rosneft most are
They say they are a vey low cost producer,I hope it’s true but have no idea
Because of buybacks by Rosneft ,BP has went from owning 19.75% to 22.03% according to Reuters.That is the power of buybacks

I would not that some of reports in the press have an agenda.
One on Seeking Alpha keeps a negative on BP because BP buying back shares at a ever higher price. IF ONLY that were true.
Think some people would find it useful to look at transcripts of the meeting after results are announced. It tells you what the board think.
Know you can’t believe all you hear,but If you don’t trust them a bit why invest your money with them

Share buyback in 1st q was stated as offsetting dilution only the last ste f buybacks were part of new 4% reduction target.
The 40% crude output reduction is partly creative accounting with some becoming 3rd party like in Iraq but still really BP owned.
Some of rest is very high cost oil.
If the 40% crude reduction carries into a CapEx reduction of similar size that must help the quarterly numbers and Iraq etc are now expected to be self funding ie no CapEx from BP

BP board said in their Q and A after last report that their target was to increase div by 4% as a result of lower number of shares (4% less) each year due t buybacks

Hi I am positive .
My thoughts are as follows
The Green side of the business is to small to be important just now so is one for the future
BP has no short term plans to get out of the oil industry just to upgrade the portfolio of assets to only have low cost to produce oil.
The buyback means that if as they state they expect to retire 4% of shares each year.
Every 3 years 10% of shares are retired ( allowing for any dilutions due to shares also being issued)This means every 3 years you shares are worth more of the company.
At some time maths must come into play and as your 5% return will increase as your share of the company increases Market must at some time move share price up to bring return back to 5%.Must admit would have expected some sign of this already, but think many are just confused as to what BP is at present.

Every time BP looks like a floor has been set, non. BP news starts a new drop,
It is rare that the drop of price is directly related to BP and long may this continue.
However each day of not very high share price means BP can buy even more with their money.If this continues one day we will be left as major shareholders as the last person left .I suspect some day the return will become high enough to get noticed again by the market

I to am feeling positive having read transcript .
The things I like are that if everything stays the same the buyback guarantees dividends increase at no extra cost to company.The longer market undervalues the company the more they can move the dividend up at no cost to them.
I also like that the plan is to make our own electricity by solar or wind farm and the sell it at our fast chargers to our own customers no middleman.
If we can pay down some debt in the next 10 years or so, think how well we will be positioned then with less shares and no more oil spill payments.
I would never invest in a company whose management I did not trust.
But it is all about your time scale. I think the future will be bright.
Ps ex BP employee but do accept times they have been so wrong eg oil spill etc

Don’t know why they can’t have Dividend as at present and then add on each quarter an extra dividend which is directly linked to Price of Oil and can then change each quarter but would be very predictable.They can still have Share buy back as well if they want
