The new Sony XZ3 has a 2880x1440 display which is exactly the same as the new HP Windows mixed reality headset.
It has a Snapdragon graphics chips which is the same as the Oculus units.
It is a VR ready phone.
You can pre-order it now.

Youtube's estimated revenue is supposedly 15 USD. And that is from cats falling off the back of a sofa or two, never mind warbling a song or two. Just saying

A quick Google search suggests 1 in 3 people around the world have smartphones.
That is a significant potential audience.

So lets say Melody just release straight video of live gigs across that audience.
Never mind VR, never mind 360, never mind their mulit-point setup.
What income would you expect from that audience for subscriptions and what might you get from advertising ?

Significant is definitely the word.

Sony have just launched their new Xperia Z3 phone.
It is armed with a Snapdragon chip for graphics and a high def display.
Their website at this link shows (towards the bottom of the page) shows what looks to me like a multi-point music video

This has to be a VR ready phone.

To expand on Hydro1's point.

The most viewed "360" video on pornhub (a leading website for such things I am told) has has had over 6 million views, whilst the leading "VR" video on the same site has had nearly 2 million views.

If you look at that from an advertisers perspective then those numbers are similar to a popular programme on UK television.

However, I believe that the "numbers" will be dwarfed by those for the music industry.
That means huge advertising revenues as advertisers take up the space.

In my view;
They are waiting and will buy out a successful company with hardware or software, rebrand it and flog it as their own.

iPhone, is a maybe, maybe not.
But they have all these software developers, they will not be sitting on their backsides doing nothing.

If you check the Argos website you will see that they have them in stock for next day delivery, well maybe not Saturdays.

So the John Lewis thing is a bit of a red herring.

Possibles announcements might be;
Live gig by some megastar.
Release of the App on the other HMD platforms, as has been promised for some time.
Release of the App on the iphone or android platforms.
An upbeat status report concerning their work with Microsoft AR.
Or..... buy out

I think further "agreements" will steady the ship, depending on the sp when the get announced.

I don't think they will release a business update for some months, so there is not going to be any numbers to munch on, good or bad.

Irrespective of whether you can try the Occulus Go or not at John Lewis, their website says out of stock (both Go and Rift), so they would appear to be selling.

IDC forecasts the overall AR and VR headset market to grow to 8.9 million units in 2018, up 6% from the prior year. That growth will continue throughout the forecast period, reaching 65.9 million units by 2022.

Just in case anyone was wondering if there was an audiience for music on video these days, just remember that MTV still pull in about 400 million viewers every week through that flat thing on the wall, so even a fraction of that will give MVR great advertising revenues.

MVR.....MTV....buy out by Viacom in the future ????
