Understood, but why would you set a stop-loss that actually means you have to put up more margin (eg first example)!?. Frankly, I can't see this making much difference to the business model, although at the margin (pun intended) this should improve bad debts/write-offs for IG. What it does do for me, is dispel some of the bizarre comments around leverage and margin floating around this Board at the end of last year suggesting you needed to put down £50 for every £1 of exposure!
Regarding margins, the Firm is currently investing heavily on attracting new clients, and the 38% points to real success in this area. once these investments begin to wind down, I expect to see margins bounce back strongly, with associated eps gains. I haven't crunched the numbers yet, but I'll come back to you when I do.
Finally, 5% running yield still very nice and something to bank on whilst waiting for the capital recovery.
