I guess Weir must be seen as one of those stocks which provide a hedge against Brexit uncertainties....much of their revenue isn’from overseas and not denominated in sterling, so will be relatively uneffected by any sterling slide.

I’m not a regular reader of this board but surely realistic expectations of Horse Hill are that the output will not “Gush” but will simply parallel other discoveries in the area.

The BGS report on the Weald Shale (freely available) gives the history of extensive exploration over more than 100 years with about 120 wells drilled in the South East. With the exception of Wytch Farm which is a completely different geological structure, output generally has been averaged around 200 bd width Singleton and Avington managing the best at about 400bd if I remember rightly. I’ve no idea what UKOG is valued at but I’d be putting figures of between 100 and 400bd into your spreadsheet as a realistic estimate of expected output.

Just a note to report that the little reported conflict in Yemen is reaching crisis point. The Bab el Mandeb strait at the Southern end of the Red Sea is threatened by the Iran backed Houthi militia who have attacked shipping including possibly Saudi tankers passing through. The Israelis threaten to become involved if their shipping is attacked. That is just the opportunity for the Houthis to provoke the Israelis into a heavy-handed response and draw in other Arab neighbours against the old foe Israel.

At the same time the Iranians are conducting naval exercises in the Straits of Hormuz, through which travels 17% of global oil supplies. Basically the Iranians are indicating they could respond with force to US sanctions.

Why is this relevant to Shale Gas, well it illustrates generally he fragility of worldwide oil and gas supplies. I suspect that in the end money will outweigh politics and the waterways will remain open but it’s certainly a volatile area.

Let’s suppose the supply of lithium or cobalt was limited to just a handful a of countries would that make those countries richer or poorer.

In other words the idea that we can replace the ICE with electric vehicles by 2040 is just wishful thinking.

This is what Bill Gates was saying 2 years ago, there is currently no practical alternative to fossil fuels but we should be ploughing mega bucks into relevant research. In the meantime there are practical lower carbon alternatives such as CNG powered vehicles.

Regarding Bletchingley 2 which was a plan to expand their successful (and relatively new) operation there; I did enquire of the company when the plan disappeared off the radar and was simply told that, at the time of their financial problems, that they had to reduce costs and the delay to this project was part of cost-cutting. I guess they wanted to concentrate investment on the shale gas project. Rather than a negative indicator it shows that Igas have other assets which are waiting to be exploited.

Rizo when will this 58p appear? We are moving towards first shale gas and Cuadrilla suggest that the shale layers they are targeting are very promising indeed. Any success and all U.K. shale assets will be re-rated. The only thing to stop it would be Blackpool Tower rocking on its foundations. On that subject I do hope British Intelligence is ensuring that our furry hatted friends do not interfere with Cuadrilla’s operations. This is only partial paranoia as the Chief of NATO suggested a few years ago that Russia was financing opposition to initiatives that threaten their energy dominance in Europe. By the way, why do you put coal seam gas and shale gas in the same bag, that are completely different technologies.
