James, what I meant by $100 oil territory was that the price of Brent crude (one of the main traded types of crude oil) could rise to around $100. You will find the Brent price continually updated on the BBC News online business data page. The price is currently about $81 a barrel.

Will depend on when we get news of how the Cuadrilla exploration is going. I don’t expect to get news of gas amounts any time soon but it would be helpful to the SP to know the process is going smoothly.

There is also the Jamal Khashoggi affair, the Saudis continue to deny involvement and they may take umbrage if the USA in particular applies “punishment” - I think it’s unlikely but they could use the oil weapon in which case we’re into $100 oil territory.

Oil Price News reports that China’s consumption of natural gas, which China aims to increasingly use in the massive coal-from-gas switch, jumped by 21.6 percent in August, according to NDRC data calculated by Platts. Domestic production increased by 9.6 percent while imports surged by 38.9 percent in August from the same month last year.

In January to August, natural gas consumption went up 18.2 percent annually, with production up 6 percent and imports soaring 38.6 percent.

Oil Price News reports that prices on both Europe’s gas market and Asia’s LNG will likely stay high for the whole of the winter through March and even April 2019, according to a Shell manager.

“The winter looks bullish for gas,” Wetselaar told S&P Global Platts last week.

“Gas prices in Europe are relatively high, with storage levels not quite recovered from the tough winter, so with a tight LNG market in Asia, Europe might well see high prices as well,” Shell’s manager said.

The National Grid publish their Winter Outlook in mid October and it’ll be interesting to read what they predict. If they publish any sort of concerns about supply at about the same time as Cuadrilla gets moving then IGAS really will be on an upswing.

Cuadrilla have just had a delivery of fracking equipment and say they will be ready to start in a “few weeks” so how long is ”a few”? My guess more than 3 weeks and less than 10. With the current bullish sentiment on Brent and U.K. Natural Gas I can see a modest run up over that time.

Reports today that thhe Oil and Gas Authority has finally given the go ahead for the Hydraulic Fracture Plan for the PNR1Z well at the Preston New Road site as described in plans put forward by Cuadrilla. Fracking equipment was delivered to the Cuadrilla site. The company said it would take a few weeks to complete the set-up and get started.

Reports from the media including the Wall Street Journal that the Saudi state-run oil company Aramco is warning its customers that Saudi will be running low on the most popular crude in October 2018, a month before the US is to impose sanctions on the sale of Iranian oil, amid higher-than-expected demand, according to sources close to the situation. Looks like the Saudi’s are simply not in any position to answer Trump’s call for increased supply. The price of oil has many moving parts but it looks like $90 is more likely than $70.
