BP's fourth quarter and full year 2021 results and update on strategic progress on 8th March.

..... I fail to see what would be the catalyst to move the SP higher in the short term in these market conditions. Too much uncertainty and jitters in the markets in my opinion.

Previous quarters saw BP increase prior to the actual results as with this quarter. Unless BP smash expectations, which will be very high, we may have to tread water for a few months to make the next move north.

However, I do believe that it is just a matter of time.

I wanted to thank everyone for posting over this weekend.

A wonderful mix of different opinions and views that I have really enjoyed reading.

The vast majority of us are united in our common aim and hopes for our investment in BP. All diferences of opinion and concerns are equally valid !!!. Devils advocate, genuine postsr or even nut job rants all feed into assisting me in questioning my views which is healthy and good.

Being open is the key here and not taking any posts too seriously and to the point of responding negatively. Something I am guilty of and I am working on !!!

Posts on this forum, or any other forum, are meaningless in regard to the direction of the share price, but are meaningful and have true value if thought provoking.

So here we go guys and girls, a new trading week, results upon us, volatility with Ukraine, interest rates, possible market correction contagion in the mix but I am really confident energy, super majors like BP, are going to be one of the homes of the rotation of funds from growth to value in months to come.

Maybe a roller coaster in the short term but at the end of the ride, with no guarantees of course, I believe my investment in BP will be the best investment I have ever made.

I thought that subject title would grab your attention.

Firstly, you can all relax. The link below is to an article from 2014 although if you take the time to read the article you will see the similarity to current affairs.

Sanction against Rosneft have been in place since 2014 after Russian aggression towards Ukraine and the annexing of the Crimea. Have sanctions had any effect on Rosneft ? Possibly. Were they designed specifically to protect western investment ? Of course. Will Russian sanctions 2.0 do the same ? 100%.

Many global US, European and UK companies are invested in Russia. Most of the super majors are intertwined in the ecomonic infrastructure of the Russian economy through energy and finance so while any possible sanctions may sound tough, loopholes and getarounds will be factored in.

I suggest ignoring the nonsense from some uninformed or just plain imbeciles posting on this forum about BP possibly dropping to sub £3.00 as its not going to happen.

This is just history repeating itself.

Thanks for your detailed opinion and analysis. Really appreciated and some excellent points on Chevron and BP.

Also looking forward to the results. I do have some minor background unease over the Ukrainian issue on a worse case scenario basis with Rosneft and will be more at ease once that matter is resolved.

My concerns are more to do with market sentiment towards BP with its Russian connection, rather than with any real fear for the relationship with Rosneft or Russia, in the unlikely outcome of conflict. This is mainly a short term concern. Very confident long term.

Interesting times.

I see Chevron disappointed the market with their results today. Premarket they are down although I appreciate that their share price reached an all time high recently so all relevant I guess. Sky high oil and gas and yet come in under market expectations. Disappointing.

Hoping that's not repeated with BP Q4 results.

I admit that I have been guilty in the past ( hopefully ! ) on a bad day of regrettably posting a short term reaction to share price movements rather than reflecting, so I can understand posts of frustration but I don't think there is any reason for investors to feel pessimistic at this moment in time in their investment in BP in the transformation while performing as a massive cash generating company nearly at embarrassing levels.

I would not be surprised, or unhappy, for the Chief Finance Officer and the team to ' play down' profits at Q4 with the call for windfall taxes etc.

I hope all's good. I don't think there is a cigarette paper between our views on BP, the unprobable Russian/ Ukraine political game and share price targets.

Apart from my caution on specific dates, only based on possible unforeseens, I see all research on supply and demands becoming reality over the next few years.

In the short term, the share price may fall.....and rise.....and fall again but I am so confident in my investment in BP over the next few years that short term movements are irrelevant.

Regardless of differences of opinion, I really hope holders are not shaken out by monthly noise and sit back and are rewarded for their investment choice/gamble.

Question. What is your point please ?

From 300 to 400, you have *****ed every stage of the way. You have whinged at every level of the share price increase. Frustration is one thing but you seem deranged and unconnected with the reality of how a giant company, like BP, share price can move.

You whinged (quote) "wishing" you sold at 360 when the share price temporary dropped to the 330's yet, it seems, you did not sell when your wish came true. Now, just a few weeks later, you are whinging again that its not over 400.

You are in the frame of losing any credibility in taking your posts seriously and I write that with regret. All posts are valid and worthy but please, if you can, for your and our benefit refrain from needing to score points. It is meaningless. All that is achieved is nothing at all.

We are all different characters and express ourselves differently but on this particular forum, surely, we all want the same thing being the success of our investment. This may come frustratingly slow for some ( me too at times ) but tortoise or hare investment, we will get to our destination sooner or later.

Vodafone is another example of the same. I am happy for your investment in Vod in that its seems to be moving in the right direction, as always, too slowly for investors.

Re Ukraine....you are 100% right. Putin wants two things. To stay in power and to further increase his personal wealth. Both are under threat with a Ukraine invasion and he knows it.

What is there to gain from an invasion of Ukraine ?
Answer. Nothing.

Does he really want to be bogged down in a multi year conflict destroying Russia through sanctions and bankruptcy, destroying the Russian billionaire Oligarch's wealth and their support for him just to occupy more peasant land whose only importance is a strategic Nato and EU expansionist possibility.

Putin already has control of the strategically important parts of the Ukrainian peasant land.

Putin would need 250,000 troops to invade, not 120,000. He is mugging the weak west through cunning and brinkmanship. He will be offered oncessions from the US and will gain something for nothing.

What happened to the days when no one negotiated with aggressors ?
Well, the west is weak, skint and more and more isolationist now. The US are no longer interested in being the world's policeman and the rest of the west are toothless without the US.

So Emerald, stop dreaming and hoping for conflict to gain some personal financial advantage. Its sad.

Russia is skint. It's economy is minor league and Putin is punching way above his weight. Good luck to him and Russia. Russia and Ukraine are backward, corrupt fake democracies and political fodder for the west.

Back on BP forum topic, shares may be manipulated short term as they always are, over and over again, conflicts come and go. Good luck to long term holders in BP.

You apologised for your deramping, negative narrative previously and now you're at in again especially since the share price has recovered in recent days.

BP can not be nationalised by Russia and you either know that or your a bigger fool than your posts demonstrate.

Russia needs BP for their staff professionalism, expertise and partnership. BP have been in partnership with Russia for decades. When Russia annexed the Crimea in 2014 BP was in partnership with Rosneft. They will continue to be whatever the outcome of sanctions or conflict.

So please pause your nonsense. You used to be a fairly balanced poster before you sold out your BP holding.

Why the bitter nonsense now you are no longer a share holder ???

I think you are right on poor getafgrip's post. That's what can happen with wit !!!.

You are also so right that the last couple of days retrace was natural and expected with seeing some profit taking. It was just a matter of when with the recent rise. With Brent nearing $90pb today, in my opinion, the retrace should be short lived. A dip at the US open was fairly quickly reduced so I would not be surprised to see a move back up fairly soon.
