Ultimately yeah you are correct and when this over they will have a price to pay and i am all for that. But look we live on an island we had good warning ahead of a lot of European countries what was happening and the Tories stood by and did nothing precisely nothing. You may recall the herd immunity speech by Boris "Take it on the chin" that was the Tory strategy until they were advised it would lead to more deaths and the NHS would never have coped. @JB good you see the key to solving this whole thing is in an agreement nothing else will suffice. I am aware they wouldn't roll out in one hit mind you nothing would surprise me with this lot running the show. The thing is when divide a class of work without really having the volumes to hand and they dont have that detail because its manual traffic so its all guess work, it cannot work it never will. Am i saying that if there is an agreement to trial with the CWU it will work? No i am not saying that, but i has a better chance of working. You see when you tell an employee to do something rather than ask them which an agreed trial would do then you get angst which is what is happening. when you progress a trial like new delivery methods even with an agreement and you are informed by the union that it will not work even the employees have given it one hell of a good go. You should detract which is what RM did in the end but wasted so much time and money. Will things change going forward yeah possibly they will but it has to be consensual and not solely factored on profit. So you are correct that the growth could outrun letters it possibly could we dont know though do we. And whatever happens letters will still have to be delivered and any form of separation of the business will not be tolerated so it is within that backdrop that an agreement has to be reached

You clearly are not getting it are you? All you see are financials this business does not solely run on financials. whether you like it or not it is a public institution and thought very highly of. @JB So basically what you are saying is that it is a strategy doomed to failure. You see what exactly does normal levels mean? And if this had been rolled out wide scale to the 300 offices in the trial how far above normal levels do you think that the tilt would come. You cannot rely on outhouses we should be able to do that work all bar christmas within our own estate without having to rely on agency workers who cannot be relied on add additional costs in terms of staff and transport costs which are off the scale and which leave you with reduced profits. Its ridiculous that people like Cameron who i loathe and Macauley who i do have some respect for are not pointing Rico in the right direction. You cannot manage this company as a parcel company it wont work and the sooner people get their heads around that the better. If there is a solution it will come about jointly with the CWU if its imposed it will just lead to a clash Rico has to learn this RM are not like GLS and he should not try and lead us down that road it will fail

Firstly you get backlogs at pressure periods. Additional volumes, these are the volumes we get at pressure so no different at all. In fact if you depressed the work into the 300 offices Rico wanted the volumes would be three to four times higher than they are in the 1400 DO's irrespective of sick leave. This would not have worked it would have been a disaster the CWU warned them but again were ignored. We have people leading this industry that do not understand it we have a lot of yes men nodding when its right to do so and taking their money. It genuinely is Lions led by donkeys

For those of you that continually praise the strategy being adopted by the Company and Rico in particular. Red for example wont question anything in terms of strategy because he dont know anything about the industry. So the Large packet strategy whereby 300 delivery offices would be delivering shoe box and over size parcels. That is now a complete dead duck, the recent upsurge in parcels has shown that 1400 DO's cannot cope when traffic levels are high and Rico wanted to use 300. Absolutely no chance. This is why the CWU are so important in building the structure of the company and not yes men who will bend and bow to every idea that comes along because they are too scared to do otherwise

@Wolves I want to be rewarded the same as other key workers have been i think it is the very least we deserve even those that are on furlough for the 12 weeks Government advice (Now surely no one on here can argue that the people who have been told by the Government to stay off, should do just that?). It is on the agenda for the talks next week with Royal Mail and I am sure given the bad press that the Company have had in the last week they will cough up they would be silly not to. Just testing the water. What are peoples views on the sort of payment that postal workers should get as a thank you for working through this crisis. What are your thoughts a straight £1000 bonus or and additional 2 or 3 quid on the hourly rate , or nothing.
