I stand by my previous comment, although this, like many others right now, is a bottom draw play.

Bit busy next couple of weeks, so have done a load of buy and sell orders across a range of names.

VIX currently at 37. Still a healthy looking chart, that one. Feels different to the last one we had around this level, back in early August 2024.

Given their focus on cutting waste and fraud (which I entirely agree with), I am not sure that putting in place additional red tape in the form of whatever name they want to give to this tax, is going to fit with that objective.

More to the point, I fully expect this initiative to be economically neutral at best for the US. But we shall see...

I think the clear reason for the market turmoil is because what the City (and Wall Street) anticipated, and what they got, were significantly different.

It has nothing to do with anything else, which I understand one or two inside the Trump camp have tried to claim.

So the markets are trying to reprice a huge amount of unexpected data that these tariff announcements have thrown up.

FWIW, I did not expect these either. I do not really understand what formula they have used. I think there is an element of trade deficit to their equations, rather than simply reciprocal tariffs per sector etc.

But given Trump's predilection for ad hoc changes, I am not going to invest too much time in getting into the reeds on said current tariff policy.

So it could be a one-off headache for the shippers that you mentioned Pokerchips, and thus for the retailers who will share that cost with them.

Not a fan of tariffs and I think they will, if continued, increase/accelerate global economic problems. But the flip flopping is what is really causing the most havoc IMO. GLA.

The gold chart put in a topping tail recently and has been massively overbought for a while now too.

Frankly, I am amazed that it did not retrace before now. And I am a borderline gold bug, lol.

It would have sold off even more, were it not for the heightened geopolitical tensions.

Just wait until the VIX gets properly high. IMO, that chart looks different and 'healthier' than previous spikes, which reversed as quickly as they had rocketed.

All that said, I have been buying a few small tranches here and there, in case it does recede quickly again soon, but ready for more heavy capital deployment if we see more proper blood on the streets. Right now, this is barely the start of a cat fight outside a Spoons on a Saturday lunchtime :) GLA.

I have no issue with the BOD here. Like another high quality SA mining outfit that comes to mind, it is not them who are the problem. Quite the reverse.

It would be political lunacy, but hopefully the general population of SA will not let happen to their country what happened to Zim. And my best wishes to those who remain holders here. No issue with you either. GLA.

As long as they notify the market, in the event of an offer, then I am open to their guidance.

What I would take a dim view of, would be an offer that was not even communicated to us. Even one at say 80p or so.

Lol. They might have shone a light on some of the more unsavoury stuff that is happening in their country and globally, but in this particular geographic example, the direction of travel was not hard to predict. Especially when NM died.

And the amount of money that was thrown at SA to help with the transition...the full scope of it will probably never be known. But perhaps it was always inevitable and this only delayed it somewhat.

Either way, it is now beyond reasonable doubt (for all but the deluded anyway, who probably suffer from Stockholm Syndrome, lol).

Cannot time this stuff perfectly of course, so it might still be a few years off, and hopefully regime change will occur before it turns into a full basket case.

That would be ideal for everyone, especially the locals, of course. But the same sentiment applied to Zim, and only a complacent fool would entirely discard something similar happening in SA, when just recent stuff has demonstrated the direction of travel and other unsettling similarities.

But to each their own. And not something that I want to be proved right about. GLA.

But, just because I want the SP to go higher than my purchase price, does not mean I will not comment on poor BOD comms when applicable.

And the lack of comment re the sustained high volumes and huge SP decline is poor.

And furthermore is also inconsistent practice on their part, given they did provide a formal comment when the SP had that previous spike to the upside.

IG. So hardly one of the tin pot ones. I have other platforms, but not ones where I hold this stock in. So will have to take your word for that.

It's fine though. This little punt is not money that needs accessing. So happy to leave it to run and see if it does end up back in the pennies and a bag or two from my purchase price.

Jury still very much out on whether or not this is a dodgy tiddler, based on the lack of any BOD comms on the share price movement, or lack of TR-1s etc (all that volume, just small shareholders? Anything is possible I guess, lol) - but this was always an eyes wide open flutter for me, so as I said in my first comment here...no complaints if it does turn out to indeed be one of 'those'. GLA.

Even 2.5p is deemed a price too far from the current one, to be accepted as a sell order. So that will not work.

As a long term play, I think this will prove a good price.

In the short term, we have to navigate a swamp that is probably still at least a couple of years away from the process of being drained.

Although we can but hope for some quicker remedies :) GLA.

It does, but I am increasingly looking at their political direction, and wondering how much longer it will be until they go full Zimbabwe.

While I have no doubt that they will not get away with treating the Chinese the way they are treating their white citizens, should they ever be so foolish to try in future, that is neither here nor there for me as an investor here.

So, I have taken profits and going forward, will do my best to boycott all SA products and services, however little an impact that might have.

I certainly hope that all those who did so in the old days, will do so again now. GLA regardless.

Welcome to the world of tariffs!

Creating busy work for the public sector since its inception.

Basically, that will be one of the things that said busy work people will establish; many businesses will alter their working practises where possible to circumvent/navigate these costs.

The whole thing might be called off, or materially changed, at the drop of a hat anyway.

IMO, they should not have even let it get this far. They should have legislated immediately to kill the whole, foolish thing stone dead, on the day.

Parliament has precedent for rushing through Acts when it suits them. This would have been one of the rare occasions where it would have been pertinent to have done so, IMO.

Overriding the SC - if it comes to that - would really not be some trifling measure. Ramifications, and a can of worms in itself, perhaps.

Although I hope the SC will see through all this nonsense and strike it off, thereby avoiding such a potentially damaging and difficult political decision.

So often I feel like there are too few 'long' realists on these chat boards; so often, I seem to get into disputes with fellow longs :)

The only way the SP is going to remain at this sort of level for any much further period of time, is if the company continues to flounder. In which case, I would rather the bird in hand, rather than potentially dead money for years and years, while the management continue to eat well without justification.

We need a break above 310p (but preferably 320p) to remove the threat of a potential bear flag, IMO.

Just filled a little gap, which is good - as long as we press on from here now.

But comfortable on fundamentals with this one right now regardless.

700p plus is nonsense IMO. 500p or so is much more feasible, but hey, happy to take more if the market wants to give me it :) GLA.
