Seaangler, it wouldn't be the government paying for the lot. The Government only foregoes the corporation tax on 130% of the cost of the capital expenditure - 25p tax foregone for every £1 spent. It should be a powerful incentive for companies to bring forward capital expenditure, but probably not sufficient to make them undertake capital investment that was not already in their thinking.

Ogggs, while I agree with you, there have been numerous posts that damn anyone who has the temerity to take a profit and a recent one that suggested nobody should ever sell. I can only presume that those posting such sentiments must be holding out for the dividends, otherwise they will never realise any return on their investment!

Rufus, well spotted! It's from 2014, so I take back what I said about CEO's presenting to the world! Everything has changed so much since then that it is unfair to judge the interview against today's reality!

Proving the point that not all CEOs should be allowed to present their case to the world! I hope that they have done their PR research and are correct in pushing the infrastructure and storage angle rather than the Hydrogen-as-the-future approach. It doesn't seem an intuitive way to advertise the company!

chippy, quite so, my comment was largely tongue-in-cheek and I have confidence that the whole thing will have been designed to meet the exacting standards that will be required. I'm just speaking from the experience of finding shipping containers to be horrible things for trying to keep anything dry in, unless you have suitable heating and/or dehumidification to cope with the changing external environmental conditions.

Mightyowl, thanks for the Twitter link. I hope that container is well sealed against salt water ingress, it is in a fairly exposed position for crossing the Bay of Biscay! Then exposed to the full day/night temperature range and accompanying condensation risk in the med! Oh well, they don't call it ExtremeE for nothing! :)

Is it possible that it is simply a more scenic location to do some form of departure media, with the potential to put this in a historic context, bringing in Falmouth's long history of being the final departure point for round-the-world ventures - traditionally the last place for mail to join the ship before heading off into the unknown.

What makes you think there is any delay? The ship moved from a side of the dock with no container-loading crane across to a side that does, to a space that wasn't vacant earlier in the week. Looks like simple logistics for completion of loading to me.

Great to see shipping starting to make the move away from fossil fuels, but why must articles like this always exaggerate? It's not a "giant oil tanker", it's a small coastal tanker - the article says it will be 60m long, that's a third of the size of the smallest of the six tankers currently discharging at Milford Haven and a fifth of the size of the largest!

It's great news but it needs to be kept in proportion!

There are container cranes in that dock, so I wonder if there are still some containerised deliveries to be taken on board...?

McBoatFace, I'm not sure where you are getting all your "facts", but you are often quite far off the mark! To choose just one from each of your last two posts:

Perhaps, but plankton blooms run out of steam in summer, when water trace elements become the limiting factor. If the bloom starts earlier, it ends earlier. Of course, for phytoplankton in northern latitudes, sunlight also limits early season growth.

Destination says Liverpool, though, so I wonder if there is a stop for PR purposes and official send-off?

Bilbo, Thanks, but I was responding to your comment that "all these companies do is make electricity". I was just trying to make the point that SSE's role is much more pivotal than that. I agree that it is perhaps not a growth stock in share price terms, for anyone looking to get rich quick. But it is a valuable buy-hold-and-forget share with a valuable dividend return, and reasonable prospects of at least maintaining its long-term capital value.
