With an overall budget of 15.5M Euros, including 5M Euros of EU support, this unique demonstrator paves the way for the creation of an industrial-scale renewable hydrogen storage sector and technical and economic replicability to other sites in Europe.

Underground storage of large quantities of renewable hydrogen will allow the matching of stochastic renewable energy sources with the constant supply needs of industrial and transport users.

We are convinced that the unique launch of the testing site in Etrez can serve as a blueprint for other sites in Europe and contribute to developing technologies for a climate-neutral future.”

About the project

This project benefits from financing through the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking (now Clean Hydrogen Partnership) under the grant agreement no. 101006751. This Public-Private Partnership has received the support of the Horizon H2020 research and innovation programme by the European Union, Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Europe Research.

This role will be involved in a multi-disciplinary review of installation’s systems and processes to verify compliance and develop actions plan for implementation of the regulations.

It's fantastic to see the first stage in the process to facilitate a competition for transportation to the Isles of Scilly getting underway.

Competition drives down prices and delivers better outcomes for residents, businesses and tourists.

With £48.4m levelling-up funding already allocated, vessels controlled by the Council on behalf of local people and businesses, has to be the way forward, keeping fares affordable for Islanders.
