US Special Envoy Joe Kennedy III has toured Belfast factories and met business leaders as part of his third official trip to Northern Ireland.
Mr Kennedy, who was appointed as the US Special Envoy to Northern Ireland for Economic Affairs last year, travelled to Northern Ireland earlier this week ahead of the NI Investment Summit.
As well as attending the event, Mr Kennedy also toured the facilities of two Belfast businesses.
Kicking off his trip, the US Special Envoy received a tour of Harland and Wolff shipyard where he met with Harland and Wolff chief executive, John Wood.
In a post on X, Mr Kennedy said he was delighted to start his visit at Belfast’s shipyard and welcomed the opportunity to Harland and Wolff to discuss “its cutting edge work in advanced manufacturing as well as its recent contracts”.
In 2022 the shipbuilding and fabrication company announced it had secured a £1.6bn deal to build vessels for the Royal Navy.
Mr Wood said: “It was my great pleasure to show our Belfast site to Mr Kennedy , highlighting the work undertaken here and the positive impact we are having on the local community and across Northern Ireland”.
He added: “The Investment Summit represents the perfect opportunity to emphasise the investment that we are making in Belfast, enabling high tech manufacturing at one of the largest dry docks in all of Europe. We also spoke about the important role our Islandmagee gas storage project can play in ensuring energy security for the UK and Ireland”.
