Separately in third video introduction presenter highlights (from memory) Eamon Ryan as saying in an article that a state owned gas storage facility that could support hydrogen storage in future could be acceptable.

Okay, we can disagree on the commercial opportunity. Mutual Energy are identified as one of the parties in the Ballylumford Power to X project together with Islandmagee Energy.

Both Ballylumford Power Station and Kilroot Power Station are owned by EPIUK and both within 10 miles of Islandmagee.

The Ballylumford Power-to-X project’s vision is to create a full cycle economy to take green hydrogen right from production, through storage, to distribution, and end use.

Located close to one of the main sites used for electricity generation near Islandmagee on the Co. Antrim

coast, Northern Ireland, it has direct access to strategic key electricity and gas network infrastructure and is in an area expected to support the future connection of offshore wind

generation. The local geology is also able to support large-scale hydrogen storage, making the project of unique

significance to the UK and Ireland.

So Islandmagee salt caverns are very well placed to integrate with a gas network and support electricity generation using gas plant and then transition to a hydrogen economy when the time is right.

Very hard to believe the owner of 2 gas fired plant could see no value/synergies in having storage facilities on their doorstep which can transition from gas to hydrogen.

UK engineering expertise is well able to deliver Islandmagee storage and integrate into network as required. Bread and butter work for many companies.

Kilroot coal power station being converted to gas power station. Gas storage at Islandmagee could enhance energy security position and support transition to hydrogen economy. Good to see EPI UK committed to £1 billion investment in the nearby Kilroot Energy Park. Another potential investor in Islandmagee?

ESB operate beyond the Republic of Ireland indeed ESB International has a team of over 7500 which has worked in over 120 countries.. I'm only highlighting that they have additional 1 billion euros capital raised yesterday to make investments and may choose to invest in Islandmagee given that ESB have highlighted the role Hydrogen storage is expected to play in the future. ESB already operates in the UK. British and Irish governments liaise on energy matters and have recently signed an MOU. An all island Ireland solution will most likely evolve that integrates well with the rest of Europe and when they can collaborate and avoid suboptimal infrastructure investments they should.
