RE: ipv6 Standards2 Apr 2018 11:48
Good morning all,
Part of what John Cronin actually said, was " ........... and the standards, well you know we've moved from having proprietary systems, when we first came here and now we have standards, IPv6, 6LowPAN, all those famous words and the standards on the meters. Well you know what's happened, don't you, actually you are paying more, because you want standards. It's crazy for me to say, put the standards in, it's going to cost you more. Well, why? Why have them ( standards ) mandatory, when you should have them as guidelines only and let yourself, from a commercial point, decide which way you want to go."
He also commented on the fact that they require data " .... every 15 minutes." And the fact that CyanConnode can provide data every 15 minutes, but what are they going to do with the data?
In a presentation a while ago, it was proposed that the Indian Government was looking for R's999 as a target price for meters. What did they eventually end up paying at the completion of the EESL reverse auction? R's2500.
That is the point I believe John Cronin was making.
Consumers in " Smart Cities " and other high end areas, with a higher disposable income, will probably be offered/want, an IPv6 service. Other areas could be offered a non IPv6 solution.
Hence John Cronin's proposal, that they should be " guidelines " and not " mandatory."
