Vaccines research and manufacturing was a central plank in Bingham's strategy (as she alluded to in the September S&T Committee meeting).

There will be stiff competition to own that space. I'm hopeful that Scancell's reputation will put them at the forefront.

One of the paragraphs near the bottom got the most attention from me:

The new SARS-CoV-2 lineages may drive a resurgence of cases in the places where they circulate if they have increased transmissibility compared with pre-existing circulating lineages and if they are associated with antigenic escape. For this reason, the genetic, immunological, clinical, and epidemiological characteristics of these SARS-CoV-2 variants need to be quickly investigated. Conversely, if resurgence in Manaus is due to waning of protective immunity, then similar resurgence scenarios should be expected in other locations. Sustained serological and genomic surveillance in Manaus and elsewhere is a priority, with simultaneous monitoring for SARS-CoV-2 reinfections and implementation of non-pharmaceutical interventions. Determining the efficacy of existing COVID-19 vaccines against variants in the P.1 lineage and other lineages with potential immune escape variants is also crucial. Genotyping viruses from COVID-19 patients who were not protected by vaccination in clinical trials would help us to understand if there are lineage-specific frequencies underlying reinfection.

I hope it is a partnership which will bring more than one product to market. Personally, I'm not expecting that to happen until around the time that the efficacy trial news is released.

I would be happy to be proven incorrect, because the whole world wins if I'm wrong.

Report was not clear over what time period they were sold....

AstraZeneca is retaining partnership with Moderna on other disease treatments and could sell its AstraZeneca/Oxford University COVID-19 vaccine on a commercial basis in future if the virus becomes endemic, the report added.

New contribution: I read that at least some of the cases from Brazil came from travellers who flew in via Paris, and that the fellow passengers are in the process of being contacted.

My take is that if you really need to travel, be extremely careful.

However, on the news timelines - slide 19, there were no 2021 date indicators for avidimabs - just in case someone thinks I'm "ramping".

It was the avidimabs market - he alluded to several bits - I think he said it when slide 15 or 16 were on the screen. I think is was when he mentioned multiple licencing opportunties.

Perhaps The Times have someone reading the BBs for any juicy bits so they can get out ahead of Sky who actually speak to the companies concerned.

Although Cliff said the Covid timelines were "as soon as possible", he did not go past the initial safety trial for the new timeline (extending two years out). Obviously, they will be looking to pull those in as much as possible. I'm not expecting news for at least 8 weeks on this because all the other, more specific timelines were H1, not Q1.

In the meantime, I hope they will continue to attract big pharma suitors will will partner for the long term.

Covid-19 was classed as asap... with selection of lead candidate SN15/SCOV1, preclinical testing against SARS CoV-2 variants, completion of GMP manu., and initiation of safety assessment in humans (CT1 I think).
