Looking at last year's timing, perhaps we are expecting the next announcement on Monday? Difficult to imagine anything other than some quite good news...

Just had the time to look at the video presentation linked yesterday by Rogerramjetlse: http://www.lse.co.uk/share-media.asp?shareprice=HDD&share=hardide ... it's certainly worth taking a few minutes to listen to the CEO, perhaps especially from slide 6 (Near-Term Opportunities) which gives a useful overview of the present status. Anyone know when the next announcement is due from the company?

Nice spot, RRJ. Here are some direct quotes; "...on the verge of some great [and later, fantastic]..... we've got some really good contracts in place.... full year results are out shortly.... a lot of the things we do are very confidential... our customers don't even allow us to publicise the fact that we're working with them...." sounds good to me, time to top up before the full year results are out! ...agreed, RRJ... but I'm still taking all of this as positive developments. And it's been another day when a combination of good news along with a net purchase of 1.5 million shares again results in a small fall in the share price. Must be a continuing good opportunity for buyers!

... for the small technology-spotting investor. Take yesterday: no news on the company and yet an unusually high net volume of shares bought (3million). Today, some excellent news, progress exceeding market expectations, and more than a million sold. Makes you wonder...

Good spot, Rogerramjetlse. On another subject, and just out of curiosity, can anyone explain to me (looking at today's trades): 1. why would anyone sell 1000 shares at £16.80? There may be people who might be dealing small numbers of shares, but isn't HDD just a bit off the (very) small investor radar? Don't the dealing overheads make this rather questionable? 2. even for quite small sales, why would someone buy 8481? 8000 I might understand, 8500 also, but 8481? What goes on with the buys/sells/market makers that I don't see? Anyone have some insight? Greetings to all HDD holders, Lionel

Interesting comments, saintly. But do we know that the coating is actually in use on the Typhoon? The Hardide company web page only states that tests were successful (I think). Anyway, at £22 million, I also thought it could be an interesting punt for any of these big companies - Boeing, or Airbus... or even BAe? Meanwhile, I'm sitting tight!

I had similar thoughts, nicton. I was guessing they picked up most during the recent placement, and perhaps just a few more on the open market. Difficult to make too much sense of these trades, but I suppose the market makers, buy/sell, hold, and so build up buying (or selling) pressure...

That would be my guess also Trevally. I can't claim to understand how these prices are determined, but I assume that the market makers would mark the price down, towards the placing price, so that the groups who picked up the new shares aren't tempted to just ditch them. They'll be testing the waters. While we wait for the next piece of good news.

Thanks, Nikylauda. I see that it is a General Meeting (not the AGM) in London to get approval for details of the placement (see the most recent RNS). I suspect there will be little or no new technical news, and since we (long time) shareholders are not party to the placing, I don't see any strong reason to go (it will probably be over in 10 minutes). I'm ignorant here, and perhaps someone can explain. More than 20 million shares were sold yesterday. These would not have been the recently placed shares, which are not yet open for trading, I think? But then I have two questions: why would an existing shareholders decide to sell such large numbers when the prospects going forward seem better than they have ever been? And why, having bought up such a large number, which they will have to dispose of, are the market makers still buying at the (relatively high price, given those sales) of 1.88p? Any thoughts? What am I missing?

Just did some checking: the new shares at 1.60p are just offered to institutional investors and not individual shareholders. Kind of the usual story: the small guys, long-term holders and supporters, nudged out. Think I would have taken up a few at 1.60p. Still some alert ones picked up a few this morning at 1.70p!
