The price seems to be recovering after that fall. The City may see this capital raise in a positive light, given the generally upbeat tone of the trading update. In the recent results announcement mention was made of the shortage of manufacturing capacity so I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised that another factory is on the cards. Two is rather more surprsing.

Woody9 the simple answer to that is don't sell it. If you believe in the company and the future of H2 generally then you will make far more money holding the share for the long term instead of trying to make a fast buck by trading it.

Seaangler I'm pleased to hear you're also a member of the long-suffering club, having apparently been in it even longer than me. There have been many times when I almost gave up on ITM but always felt there was a slight possibility that it might eventually be successful. I still hold on to that hope.

Seangler I appreciate what you're saying but Bilbo and I are in the long-suffering shareholder category and have seen it all before. Even after all these years we are still dependent on grant income and have a tiny, albeit increasing, turnover. You will have to excuse us our grumpiness at the slow pace of progress.

I'm with Bilbo on this - the ambition seems limited to say the least and the pace of progress painfully slow. I think I will probably dead by the time ITM makes any money.

I have felt for some time that this company is vulnerable to M&A activity. Even if they don't restructure themselves, they are a tempting target for an oil and gas company looking to burnish their green credentials, given their almost unrivalled portfolio of renewable assets.

I have had those in the past, including for WTB. They are a scam - I imagine you send your certificate in and they sell the shares immediately and move on, along with your cash.

It's Groundhog Day isn't it? Yet another set of underwhelming results precipitating another fall in the share price. All so predictable......

I take the point about EVs leaving FCVs behind, in the short term anyway, but the fact remains that they are still a niche market, albeit a growing one. Range anxiety is still a problem, especially if you live in the country, and long journeys remain problematic for all sorts of reasons. A friend who has a Jaguar ipace is notably reluctant to travel very far in it I notice, despite some fancy info systems telling him where he can recharge. Maybe in time the much-vaunted solid state batteries will solve the problem but it won't be any time soon. Meanwhile the problem of disposal and recycling of batteries looms in the background - are we solving one pollution issue and creating another? Then there's the question of whether the grid can cope, both at local and national level, with the huge increase in demand for power resulting from the growth in EV numbers. I still haven't heard convincing answers to any of these questions but colleagues with more technical knowledge than me may be able to provide some clarity.

Just wondered whether Bilbo or anyone else with technical knowledge have a view on the solid oxide electrolyser, mentioned in the Motley Fool article, currently being developed by Ceres Power.

You're right Bilbo, they are too slow on the order front. Hopefully the market will be big enough for everyone but they can't rely on that. ITM needs to be far more aggressive- they seem to have concentrated on technical progress at the expense of marketing and there's no point in having a giant new factory with no orders to fill it.

As a very long-term holder of ITM, my main ambition is to still be alive when we start getting big orders. I share Bilbo's frustration in this respect.

I fully agree pcjoe - the assets held by SSE will need to be seriously rerated and will undoubtedly attract further interest from investors and competitors.

Nomadicranger I felt the same until 2003, when share prices dropped before the start of the Iraq war. I managed to pick up DGE at £6, which I knew was a bargain at the time. On the other hand, as Warren Buffet pointed out, better to get a good company at a reasonable price than a poor on at a great price (or something like that)

I'm inclined to agree with you Toeman. Companies like ITM, in a new and rapidly developing industry, are notoriously difficult to value and target share prices carry a very wide margin of error. Investing in these companies has to be seen as an act of faith to some degree.

Ian Cowie can always be relied upon to give ITM a good plug but I'm surprised that he described Linde as an American engineering company. It's a German industrial gases company surely?

Nothing particularly new or enlightening there. Not sure anyone would suggest this share as a starter investment but that doesn't mean there won't be future value in it. One for the long term.
