Imbibation26 May 2018 19:45
It was suggested to me to post my "Idiots guide to Imbibation" (not sure whether to be insulted or flattered?),
The way I think of imbibation is: take a small ceramic clay flower pot (no holes other than the top). Fill it with water and put cling film over the top. Leave it a week then remove film - water soaked away because it's porous. Now spray the pot inside and out with wd40 or fill with GTX for 15 minutes. Pour out the oil and refill with water and cover the top again. A week later almost all the water is still there - the pores having been sealed / clogged with oil has trapped the water and probably has a very thin film of oil floating on top. Put a few drops of fairy liquid into a jug, pour the water in the pot into same jug and swish around a little -- then put it back into the pot. Cover the top but check every day - the surfactant (Fairy Liquid) reduces surface tension of the pots inner surface, more oily scum rises to surface as water increasingly permeates the pot and pushes the oil out of the pores into the water. If the water level falls the "oily scum" will stick to the inside wall of the pot and the "active inner surface" will reduce as water is imbibed, depth decreass and oil released - to prevent this, top up the water daily and collect the "oily top layer" for washing and purification later @ $80 a barrel.(tip: using free natural thermal energy, heat the water to 130c and simmer for 6 months to improved pore productivity).
