emblaze1/philipkeets the only way to stay ahead imo is not to rely solely on form otherwise one would only be backing short odds nags. backing fun names is hit and miss but usually they are much longer odds like ben today @ 18/1 so i can have 18 losing fun names to break even. Based on form ben would not have been considered.charbel at 4/1 was a fun name but had some form at a nice price. rogue trader i knew nothing about but liked the name and at 6/1 was worth an impulse punt. backing odds on favorites is not recommended as a surprising number lose so one can't have too many losers to stay ahead.
I have been selecting quite a few 14/1, 16/1, 20/1 33/1 and 66/1 horses to win only, as quite a few win at those odds and one can have a lot of losers at those prices to end up down. Have not yet perfected the strategy.
However today a 40/1 outsider Calivigny in a small field done @ £1 to win got cashed in during the race for £6.50 as it was up there in a closely bunched group AT THE TIME which paid 5.5/1. Got beaten 55 lengths in the end. will be looking into this for the future.
gone back to doing doubles as even trebles are difficult to get. four folds impossible. but keep changing strategies. harry's inside info is usually good at decent prices so make up for the losers gla
