ASHSTEAD UPDATE.The folly of too tight a stop loss which precluded a nice 100 pip trade. See chart below. The only reason was I was too busy to monitor the trade and there was the threat of a reverse J hook pattern but opportunities like this happen all the time e g the Eur-usd at 1.30 yesterday. MADE 120 pip profit testing on my demo within 1/2 hr as have been burned before several times trying to trade the USA non farm payrolls but this one involved a straddle. i.e. taking out a buy and sell position at prices very close to each other just before 1.30 but without stop profits or losses. This is because no matter how volatile price is one can only lose the spreads. The long produced a loss of 60 pips and the short a profit of 60 pips. When price reversed the short was closed and profit taken. The long was kept open and not closed and a further long taken out at the bottom. When price retraced the original long's loss came back to break even and the second long produced another 60 pip profit. This was a text book trade which could not have played out better giving a nice V shaped trade. Timing is important and they don't always turn out like this one but is classic example of sell at the top buy at the bottom. How often have you done exactly the opposite? When everyone is panic selling is the time to buy and when panic buying has set in is the time to sell. Price too far ahead or too far below the T line. see chart below. Will test the straddle strategy over the next few months before attempting a live trade. One only needs 1 trade like this a month for a comfortable living betting big stakes as risk is more or less limited to the spreads if one judges entries and exits correctly with no stops whatsoever and no crystalising of losses only profits. Once a losing bet is uncovered, if price does not retreat just bet in opposite direction to stop loss increasing and wait. IT IS MOST IMPORTANT that all bets are placed 'force to open' otherwise any contrary bet will be automatically offset against the losing bet and the loss crystalised. Practice this type of bet using a demo until you are confident to go live.
